alright, im trying to figure all this business out

when you take damage in a round and your try to cast a spell you must make a concentration check of 15+the spell level+ damage taken?

and the round is everything that happened between your last turn and the one your just going to take?

is this all correct?

You are correct, sir. :tiphat:

(Edit: change your 15 to 10, and then you are correct.)

You only roll a concentration check against damage (DC 15 + spell level + damage) if you are taking damage while casting/concentrating. So if you are just casting the spell then someone has to ready an action to hit you while casting, or hit you with an attack of opportunity for casting while in a threatened square, or in the off chance there is an effect that deals you persistent damage on your turn (though I believe those affects tend to damage you on the attacker's turn).

However, if you are concentrating on a spell then you are basically "casting" throughout the entire round, so for any damage you take, you must roll a concentration check to maintain the concentration of the spell.

On that note, if the spell takes a full round or more to cast then any attacks would potentially interrupt the spell as well.

Two corrections:

1) The save is (10 + Damage), that's it

2) Persistant damage effects (such as Ice Storm and Acid Arrow) do force concentration checks, and the DC is 10 + half of the last damage dealt.
So for example, if I get hit by Acid Arrow, I'm going to have to make a concentration check between 11 and 14 every time I cast a spell until after the effect ends.
For Ice Storm, I think it may be more tricky - I'm not sure if a check is required if you aren't in the Ice Storm as the cast the spell, but the rules aren't clear on that (You spent part of the round in the storm, but not the whole round - not sure how that works out).

1) The save is (10 + Damage), that's itYou are right on the base of 10 (not 15). But the level of the spell you are attempting to cast does apply:

Concentration
"1. If you are trying to cast, concentrate on, or direct a spell when the distraction occurs, add the level of the spell to the indicated DC."

From the sound of it, I sense 1E/2E thinking in the original question. Damage taken previously during the round does *not* impact your spellcasting in 3E. Only damage which explicitly occurs on your turn, while you're casting, such as an AoO or readied action. If the fighter hit you for 150 damage just prior to your turn, it doesn't impede your spellcasting one bit.

My bad. I forgot they put in the table with a foot note instead of directly on each line of the table.

and the round is everything that happened between your last turn and the one your just going to take? No. Concentration is only for Damage taken during the action (casting the spell). So readied actions to attack the caster if he begins to cast, continious damage from continious effects like acid arrow (which are halved if I recall), and damage taken by attacks of opportunity.

The figher who womped on you with a full attack on his action does not force a concentration check.

I believe by RAW, if you move away from said fighter take damage for moving, and then cast safely 30' away, you don't have to make a concentration check. Though, you won't get that past every DM.
