| runestar11-25-06, 09:43 PM | Has there been any errata for this spell? It is a 5th lv spell from champions of ruin, area affect, all targets in its area suffer 1d4 negative lvs if they fail their fort save. This already comes off as a fair 5th lv spell, until I noted that it's casting time was 1 swift action... Is that really the case? Or too good to be true?:) Thanks in advance for your help. |
| smrtgmp11-25-06, 10:21 PM | holy crap. I've looked over that spell a dozen times and never noticed the casting time. I guess I just assumed it would be a standard action. I had always been leery of casting it because it was fort negates, but this changes everything. talk about a great preface to a highly save dependant spell or as a way to nerf a group of enemy spellcasters (or both). and I haven't seen any eratta. |
| runestar11-25-06, 10:30 PM | I was wondering that since the spell mentions that you must hurl the skull, whether casting it was 1 swift action, but the act of "throwing the skull" constituted a standard action or not. But perhaps I am simply reading too much into it. Or maybe its just my brain refusing to process reality...:P Swift action area affect enervation...:cloud9: The possibilities with this spell are endless... |

Furthermore, it has short range rather than the range incraments of a thrown weapon. Swift action area affect enervation...:cloud9: The possibilities with this spell are endless...Not quite an area effect enervation, given that it allows a save. But yeah. Seriously awesome. |
| TheCobra11-26-06, 07:24 PM | I asked about this in the Forgotten Realms forum and it seems that there isn't any errata. I had a PC take this spell, but he assumed the swift action thing was misprint and/or too good. It seems like an decent spell with a standard action casting time, so that's what we went with. |
| smrtgmp11-27-06, 03:41 AM | I wouldn't use it as a standard action. I would if it was fort half, but not fort negates. But to each his own. :) |
| TheCobra11-27-06, 10:18 AM | Nerfing it was actually the player's idea, not mine. He plays a necromancer, and likes giving all the undead minions 5-20 temp hp. That makes it easily worth a standard action. |
| tarkin11-27-06, 01:54 PM | I would House Rule that while casting the spell was a standard action, it still took a regular attack action to throw the skull. |
