Hi all,

I was under the impression that if you cast dispel magic (say you are level 7) against a spell cast by a higher caster than you (say he's lvl 9), the dispel magic automatically fails. However, after re-reading the spell description I can't find anything of that kind.

Have I been doing too much drug or is it correct? :)

thx

Any drugs at all are probably too much </preaching>

But no, a lower level caster simply has to roll higher to successfully dispel.

It's d20+Your caster level vs 11+ their caster level. In the specific case of a 7th vs a 9th, you'd be rolling d20+7 vs 20, so you'd need a 13 or higher.

ok thx for the clarification.

I really don't know where I had read this (or imagined I had read this, more likely).

When a caster makes one of his own spells permanent on himself, and that spell is one he can only make permanent on himself, Dispel magic and the like will work only when it is cast at a higher CL than the character was when he cast the original spell.

But that is a special case that is not true generally.

Many thx Merestil, that's what I had read and then I mixed it up with the standard dispel magic spell.

thx again :)
