This is the spell description:

Confusion

Enchantment (Compulsion) [Mind-Affecting]
Level: Brd 3, Sor/Wiz 4, Trickery 4 Components: V, S, M/DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level) Targets: All creatures in a 15-ft. radius burst Duration: 1 round/level Saving Throw: Will negates Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell causes the targets to become confused, making them unable to independently determine what they will do.

Roll on the following table at the beginning of each subject’s turn each round to see what the subject does in that round.
d% Behavior
01–10 Attack caster with melee or ranged weapons (or close with caster if attack is not possible).
11–20 Act normally.
21–50 Do nothing but babble incoherently.
51–70 Flee away from caster at top possible speed.
71–100 Attack nearest creature (for this purpose, a familiar counts as part of the subject’s self).

A confused character who can’t carry out the indicated action does nothing but babble incoherently. Attackers are not at any special advantage when attacking a confused character. Any confused character who is attacked automatically attacks its attackers on its next turn, as long as it is still confused when its turn comes. Note that a confused character will not make attacks of opportunity against any creature that it is not already devoted to attacking (either because of its most recent action or because it has just been attacked).

My doubt is:
A character is attacked by a monster on round x.
On round x+1 the character rolls a 30 (nothing but babble) or a 60 (flee away). Should the character ignore the roll and attack the monster??? (According to the phrase in red)

Yes, I'd say "automatically" means you don't roll to see what he does.

That means, you stop rolling: he just attacks that dude till its dead than rolls for other actions.

Really fun trick:
Cast confusion successfully on two guys beside each other: if they roll attack nearest or one does (and other confused too): they will both attack each other; really fun from than on.

Almost correct. They will not keep attacking round after round until target is dead. They only attack on their next turn after being attacked themselves. On that note though, yes, two confused people standing next to each other can be really funny.

If the other guy is smart enough to say "He's confused! I should stop attacking him!" then the confused guy will stop. He only attacks *on the next round* after he's been attacked -- if, in that round, he isn't attacked again, you start rolling randomly again.

This can be a nasty cycle to break out of, though. Lets say two kobolds, Yip and Yap are standing next to each other and have just been confused, both failing their saves.

First round of the Confusion, Yip rolls and babbles incoherently. Yap rolls, and must attack nearest creature, so attacks Yip.

Second round, Yip doesn't roll -- he was attacked by Yap so he automatically attacks Yap. But now Yap doesn't roll -- Yip just attacked him so he must return the attack.

Unless someone or something intervenes, Yip and Yap will end up just trading attacks until one of them drops or the spell runs out.

Hilarious to watch, as long as your side isn't one the receiving end. Which is why Confusion is one of the very few "save" spells that made it into my Arcane Trickster's spellbook. :)

It really depends on what yip rolls first. As long as yip doesn't roll some effect that makes him move this will be hilarious
