Can a character that is helpless and gibbering from a confusion effect be coup de graced or merely flat footed?

The drow priestess confused (the spell) my halfling rogue and her male henchman did the deed!

This spell causes the targets to become confused, making them unable to independently determine what they will do. A confused character who can’t carry out the indicated action does nothing but babble incoherently. Attackers are not at any special advantage when attacking a confused character. Any confused character who is attacked automatically attacks its attackers on its next turn, as long as it is still confused when its turn comes. Note that a confused character will not make attacks of opportunity against any creature that it is not already devoted to attacking (either because of its most recent action or because it has just been attacked).

Unless there is another condition to make you helpless you cannot be subjected to a coup de grace.

A confused creature isn't flat-footed, either.

Coup de Grace
As a full-round action, you can use a melee weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless opponent. You can also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.

You need to be helpless for a coup de grace, you can have an ability score damaged or drained to 0(except con. because that will make you dead), be paralyzed, be unconcious, or meet some other condition that will make you in fact helpless.

Also keep in mind that if anyone interupts the person performing a coup de grace then it fails.
