The Constricting Chains description in the Book of Exalted Deeds says:

Half of all damage dealt to the chains (rounded down) is transferred to the target.

Which of the following is true?

1. A fighter attacks the chains and hits for 10 damage. The chains take 5 damage, and the constricted target takes 5 damage.

2. A fighter attacks the chains and hits for 10 damage. The chains take 10 damage, and the constricted target takes 5 damage.

Note the difference in how much damage the chains take.

I would rule the first option (the same way it works for a Cloaker that's grappling someone).

Makes sense; I can go with that. Thank you for the reply.
