By the rules, you can't "turn off" a Construct using dispel magic, an AMF, a Dead Magic zone, or any such thing. Making that possible would open up a huge can of worms and generally not make anyone happy, especially people in Eberron playing the Warforged PC race.

Personally, I think that it would be balancing. Warforged, after all, are immune to poison, disease, drowning and other things. Making them turn-offable by a sucessful dispel magic would, mechanically, be about the same as stunning them for 1d4 rounds.

An AMF would, to a warforged, be as bad as a wall of poison to a meatsack. And that's fair. Dead magic zones would be like negative energy zones. And making them detectable by a detect magic would be no more unfair than a "detect life" spell or somesuch.

MDJ would kill them ... but so it should. MDJ is a 9th level spell.

Seems fair to me.

Er, okay. What's the DC? What's the caster level on making a Warforged? Do you want this to be defined? As pointed out in the parent thread, Warforged are produced by major-artifact-level Creation Forges -- the caster level is probably very very high.

An AMF would, to a warforged, be as bad as a wall of poison to a meatsack. And that's fair.

No, it isn't. There isn't a spell that lets you make a "poison field" that insta-kills or insta-disables any living thing that walks inside of it. Poison in D&D always gives you a chance to save against it.

Dead magic zones would be like negative energy zones.

Warforged are already killed by negative energy.

And making them detectable by a detect magic would be no more unfair than a "detect life" spell or somesuch.

There isn't a detect life spell. Warforged are currently detectable by *all* the means any other living creature is detectable.

MDJ would kill them ... but so it should. MDJ is a 9th level spell.

Warforged are already killable by all the other 9th-level spells that kill things -- power word: kill, wail of the banshee, weird, etc. Are you seriously proposing that we have a 9th-level spell that automatically kills *any* Warforged *without* a saving throw or an HP limit (the limiting factor on those other spells)?

Well, *do* Warforged get a saving throw? Attended objects do, but is a Warforged "attended"? Can you attend yourself?

Seems fair to me.

It's not fair at all, given that you seem to be basing your conclusions on the same untrue conclusions a lot of people have about Warforged -- that they're immune to negative energy (they aren't), that they're undetectable by existing detection magic (they aren't), that they don't count as "living creatures" (they do), etc.

The thing is, though, this has already been addressed. Golems, who are not a PC race and are far, far more powerful than Warforged, are already explicitly treated not as magic items and unaffected by AMFs or dispel magic.

This is because, *fair* or not, to treat a creature as though it were a magic item is *complicated*. Creatures and objects are two entirely different categories in D&D, and making things work on creatures that are only supposed to work on objects unleashes a world of ambiguities and contradictions (like that "Does it get its Will save against MDJ?" question).

Well if you did want to play with this, you could grant a save at the dispelling spell's regular DC. MJD really already has one, if you treat the creature as a magic item.
