| Melpomene02-22-05, 04:27 PM | Just wondering what speed the spell Contigency activates at. With words like "Immediate Action" now in vogue, I was curious where the spell fit in. Please forgive me if the answer is glaringly obvious, I'm out of Legend Lores for the day. |
| smrtgmp02-22-05, 04:33 PM | Its similar to an immediate action in that it can be activated out of turn. However, an immediate action uses up your free action for the round, and contingency doesnt. That being the case, I wouldnt call it an immediate action. |
| Seeker9502-22-05, 07:12 PM | contingency activates outside the game's definitions of speed. However, it does not happen *before* the action that triggers it, so word your contingencies carefully. |
| Heron_Marked_Blade02-22-05, 07:13 PM | I think it's still a Free Action. I don't know that it fits with swift or immediate actions. If such a situation ever arrives, you can have multiple contingencies trigger in a single round, in the same way that you can have any number of (different) free actions in a round. |
| Vatras02-23-05, 09:27 AM | Here is my ruling: - If you activate it by your own volition (by clapping hands for example) I count it as a free action, disallowing another. - If it is activated by something involuntary, like being touched by fire, it immediately goes off and does not count as free action. The reason why we needed a ruling at all was the fact that you could (and can) have several contingency spells/effects on you, and we had to determine how many effects you could build up in one round (a legacy from 1st Edition games). |
