Could I use Continual Flame to make myself look like Hades from the Animated version of Hercules like If my Char shaved his hair off and then cast Continual Flame to make it look like he had a Blue flame for hair?

You arn't a valid target of the spell (not an "Object touched"). I don't see why you conldn't make some sort of thin metal crown to cast it on.

What would it accomplish aside from making you a perfect target in even the darkest of caverns? What "looks cool" in cartoons can get you killed in D&D.

Yes, but you'll be such a stylin' corpse.

Continual Flame on a vial of ink (the ink itself, not the vial) - best tattoo ever.
Continual Flame on a wig - instant diversion whenever your party needs one (put it on your head and run around screaming).
Continual Flame on a canvas armband - hands-free torch you can wad up and pocket if need be.

Make more money than god-summon a lantern archon and have it make continual flame torches every round its here. Sell. Rinse and repeat.

And eventually have said lantern archon see this moneymaking scheme as a gross misuse of Divine powers and cast continual flame on your underdarments...

Continual flame on stones set into walls of ice were a useful method of a) filling out the remainder of treasure for a white dragon and b) useful for allowing the PCs to see. No point crawling blindly around icy tunnels and getting obliterated, that's not what the game is about (unless it's really, really gritty, but then that's more the taste my Call of Cthulhu people)

But it's summoned- it has to do what you say.

And besides, my shorts are already on fire. :D

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Sorry, I had to say it. And now, to avoid being accused of spamming, here's another use.

Diving Helmet!
Yep, that's right. Cast it on a small pebbleand encase it in a glass lamp on a helmet, or a headband, or something, and you have a nice lit-up underwater hat.

If you are playing a monster PC who can use the spell as a SLA, its a pretty good money making tool since you no longer have to contend with it costly material component. :)

You can always volunteer to help light up an entire village or town...sure saves a small fortune in fuel costs. ;)

The lantern archon thing will not make you rich. As the number of available torches increases, the price people are willing to pay will decrease. Since these are luxury items and not necessities, and certainly not consumables, the price will drop even faster.

It will, however, save you a lot of money if you need that many torches.

Cast it on enough pebbles or small coins to make a handful. In an encounter in a dark area, throw the pebbles/coins - scattering them and providing more light in the encounter area.

I know these kind of threads are supposed to be for humor and fun, but when the suggestions are presented in a serious manner, it is at least necessary to point out why the idea won't work.Cast it on enough pebbles or small coins to make a handful. The spell would affect only a single pebble.

Now... if you mean cast it numerous times -- once on each pebble or coin -- that would work just fine.

In that vein, Seeker, what about the vial of ink mentioned before?

Would the ink inside the vial count as 1 object, or would continual flame only function on 1 molecule of the ink?

That said, I am not 100% agaisnt "cool" as long as it is not intended to turn into mechanics impact. So, if your objective in creating a vial of continual flame ink is to allow you to create a single tattoo or a single piece of art where the flame is a part of the artwork, I would have no problem with it.

Continual Flame is one of those spells I have always had a blast with.

My rougish sorceror was always selling "Flaming Swords" to unsuspecting dupes.

Other uses he found was: cast on pebble, mount pebble in lead tube, affix ruby to one end of tube, instant primative laser pointer

cast on a cup of water. Drink water. Amaze villiagers

Cast silent stilled on local children's clothing, "volunteer" to remove the curse for a price.

Also did a simlar thing to the ink idea with a pot of paint, used to to mark corridors in a dungeon.

Sure, for whatever good it will do you..

Let's say that the Ink retained the Spell and when the Tatoo is placed on my head, I plan on countering this when Darkness is needed with something like a Black Hat, like a Beanie type thing, but yeah anyway... whould it continue to be in effect the Flame whould be still there, even when my Hair grew back whould it still be there and just kinda make my Hair look like its all Blue and Firey?

EDIT: Ooooo, on that Note, how bout a Tounge Ring, how awsome whould that be?

Oh wow, I inadvertently solved the OP's problem without realizing I was doing it. :D

Anyway, note the spell description.
A flame, equivalent in brightness to a torch, springs forth from an object that you touch. The effect looks like a regular flame, but it creates no heat and doesn’t use oxygen. A continual flame can be covered and hidden but not smothered or quenched.

Light spells counter and dispel darkness spells of an equal or lower level.
(Underlining mine.) Once the flame is there, it's there until it's dispelled, quite possibly for the rest of your life if you're careful around dispelling casters. Growing hair over it might look like it were mingled with the flame, or hide it altogether (depending on length and style), but it would still be there. Covering it with a big hat could also hide it but it would still be there and show again when you took it off.

Have fun. :D

The tatoo is a really brillaint idea. Very nice.

I just wonder if using such ink in a tattoo would not mute the light to some degree - technically, the ink would be under a thin layer of skin.

That'd look even better. The fire wouldn't spring up from under your skin, as it's covered, but there'd be a dancing tattoo of thin lines of fire under your skin. Very cool!

Hmmm, good point about the flames not actually coming out from the surface of the skin for a 'hair' effect... saying they do would be no big thing, but, it's probably not RAW.

However, there is still a way to apply Continual Flame to the surface of the scalp permanently, rather than underneath. It's a bit more costly but it'd work. Replace the ink with Unguent of Timelessness, which never wears off, and wax your dome with that. You get the flaming head, and if you get killed, not only does your scalp resist decomposition for later resurrection efforts, it even acts as a beacon to help locate the corpse (useful if you're alone when you drop).

I originally had the liquid flame tattoos idea while outfitting and describing a cleric into body modification, whose god's unholy symbol is a horned skull. He put Continual Flame on the holy symbol on a chain around his neck, both for utility (nice hands-free torch use), and because a solid silver horned skull wreathed in fire just looks cool and intimidating. He's also got the horned skull unholy symbol tattooed on one shoulder, and suddenly :lightbulb
The guy's got quite a few other brand/scars, tattoos both mundane and flaming, piercings, and modifications, several of which (including one application of the flaming tattoo idea) certainly belongs on the Manure - er, Mature - Board.
