| ForcedEvolution02-14-06, 04:40 AM | Is it possible to have continuous True Strike? I was under the impression that because the duration wasn't influenced by levels then it can only be use activated...but I can't find the rule... I'm looking RAW and SRD explinations here, not rulings or RP opinions...I know how to do such, but I'd like an actual rule example...of why it can and/or cannot happen. |
| smrtgmp02-14-06, 04:44 AM | Go ahead and make it continuous. That wont change the fact that the effects of the spell end after you make your first attack. You gain temporary, intuitive insight into the immediate future during your next attack. Your next single attack roll (if it is made before the end of the next round) gains a +20 insight bonus. |
| runestar02-14-06, 05:01 AM | Closest is to use the innate spell feat from CA and sac a 9th lv slot for the ability to use true strike as a SLA at will. |

| Seeker of Undeath02-14-06, 03:20 PM | Is it possible to have continuous True Strike? No, not really. True Strike does nothing but give you a bonus to a roll. Subsequently you'll only be able to craft an item that gives a like bonus.I was under the impression that because the duration wasn't influenced by levels then it can only be use activated...but I can't find the rule...That's because there is no such rule.I'm looking RAW and SRD explinations here, not rulings or RP opinions...I know how to do such, but I'd like an actual rule example...of why it can and/or cannot happen. You can't in the sense that you want, but you can have a similar item. You want a +20 insight bonus to hit all the time. The most similar thing I see is an AC bonus (other), so we'll use that formula. It'll cost you (Bonus^2)*2,500gp to make. (20^2)*2,500 400*2,500 1,000,000gp I don't think you need to worry about it until epic. If you went with something more nearly sane...let's try +10 to hit. (10^2)*2,500 100*2,500 250,000gp That's much more reasonable for a late-game character. My suggestion is to just take Innate Spell (True Strike) OR do yourself one better and work on an item of Wraithstrike. Let's go for that one. Continuous use, of course. Spell level x caster level x 2000gp x 4 (base effect is measured in rounds) 2 x 3 x 2000 x 4 6 x 2000 x 4 24 x 2000 48,000gp Now how's that? Slap that on a ring and all your melee attacks are touch attacks. That's much more reasonable, and best of all we didn't need to find any sort of bonus. We just used a spell effect. |
| kraegor02-15-06, 01:26 AM | Wow.. this question again? (this is like the 10th one in 3 weeks, lol) Yeah, what the above poster said, it costs a bundle to make it, for the same price you could get something that added like +6 to ALL stats. Not worth it in my opinion honestly. Plus, continuous true strike.. how boring is that? Knowing you will almost always hit? Bah, that would just ruin the game for you, might as well sit down, tell your DM that you want to be a god and get it over with. |
| smrtgmp02-15-06, 01:31 AM | Why not just craft yourself a ring of I win? |
| Seeker9502-15-06, 09:20 AM | Why not just craft yourself a ring of I win?It is a unique item in each campaign, and far too many DMs choose to wear it. |
| Beckett02-19-06, 02:09 AM | Here is a solution that I love. Let the player spend all the money to make or buy it. This is how it works round by round. 1 Standard action to activate weapon 2 Attack/Full Attack to get a +20 on one attack 3 Try it again. Nothing. You are Constantly giving off a Divination Aura. 4 Standard action Diactivate the Weapon 5 Standard Action Activate the Weapon 6 Same as Step Two 7+ Repeat |
| Pennarin02-19-06, 02:13 AM | You can always have a ring that confers True Strike x number of times per day, or better yet a weapon (or bracers for monks) that does the same x number of times per day. (Ahh, but to rule moguls out there: Have you ever seen an item that confers a spell effect unto its user even though the spell specifies a range of Personal?) |
| ForcedEvolution02-19-06, 05:20 AM | True how boring it would be to get a +20 on all attack rolls...but many many players aren't worried about boring...they want to play I win. Actually in my experience I ran into more munchkin power gamers than those willing to accept a challenge. And I had to spend a few painful session getting them into Role-playing, instead of Roll-Playing. Its just my last player was trying to rules lawyer me about it and I knew there was another answer to this question. And even though he took my final say as DM...no to continuous true strike, I wanted to provide him with a good example of how it could be done. [QUOTE]You can't in the sense that you want, but you can have a similar item. You want a +20 insight bonus to hit all the time. I'm sure WotC writers thought of this before making the spell, just had trouble finding an answer thanks. |
| katarl02-19-06, 12:58 PM | You cannot ever have a ring of continuous true strike according to RAW as the duration of the spell is not measured in rounds per level. Any continuous item must have a duration of rounds/level, minutes/level, 10mins/level, hours/level or have a duration greater than 24 hours in order to be continous. The closest is 5 or 4 a day, which requires a trigger. I have seen prcs with true strike class ability though. The epic ring of true strike was in a supplement to magic item rules written by wotc. It clarified an error in the magic item rules. When spell grants a bonus that has an innate value already (such as mage armour +4 armour), when put into a magic item, you must look at both values (mage armour cl 1 2000x1x1 and +4 armour 16000gp) and choose the higher. A CL 1 continous mage armour costs at least 16000gp (you might as well not bother). However, this does not apply to uses per day, only continous. A cl 12 mage armour useable twice a day costs about 9000gp (rough estimate), a saving of 7000gp, almost half. Obviously these rules are unfair and must be handled carefully by the dm. |
| Fayle02-19-06, 05:55 PM | Closest is to use the innate spell feat from CA and sac a 9th lv slot for the ability to use true strike as a SLA at will. This is what I was thinking, and if you're a caster able to cast it, this is the route I would take. It also costs nothing to do it this. Well almost nothing. Just a 9th lvl spell slot :D . Still much more reasonable than the price you'd pay for +20 attack on an item. |
| CryoSilver02-19-06, 05:58 PM | I would totally let my player have a ring of true strike. The command word would be "Please strike me violently in the head and groin, thanks much" Which would need to be spoken aloud every round. By the player. Who would be required to wear a pink dress. |
| SilentOne02-19-06, 06:02 PM | It's possible-esque. Just make a ring of quickened true strike. It would cost: 5*9*1800 = 81,000 for a +20 insight bonus a one attack roll 1/round. You'd be unable to cast any other quickened spells though, but hey, +20. |
