I'm trying to make a set of lenses that bestow arcane sight to the user. It would be quite expensive so I'm thinkig of making their duration be like that of The Boots of Speed, 10 round per day, wich need not be continus. Is there a rule wich decribes such duration, I can't seem to fund it in the SRD.

The formula is:

Command word: Spell level x caster level x 1,800 gp e.g. Cape of the mountebank.

This is based on 5 uses per day so if you want to reduce this you use the following "Charges per day: Divide by (5 divided by charges per day)".

Because it is not continuous you ignore the multipliers for the spell duration.

So if you wanted it usable Once a day for 5 minutes (Caster Level 5) as if casting the spell the market price would be (5 * 3 * 1800) * (1/5) or 5,400gp.

If you wanted it activatable for a total of 5 rounds a day (as a free action) then it is priced in the same way as Boots of Speed:

(5 * 3 * 2000) * (1/5) = 6,000gp.

But what about the multiplier for spell duration:

From the SRD:
If a continuous item has an effect based on a spell with a duration measured in rounds, multiply the cost by 4. If the duration of the spell is 1 minute/level, multiply the cost by 2, and if the duration is 10 minutes/level, multiply the cost by 1.5. If the spell has a 24-hour duration or greater, divide the cost in half.

The multiplier is not used because this is not a continuous effect. It is a use activated effect durational (which prices the same as a continuous effect). Boots of Speed illustrate this pricing model exactly.

The difference is that a command word item effectively "casts" the spell for you x times a day (as a standard action) and a use-activated item lets you "use" the spell (as a free action) for a number of rounds a day (but they do not need to be contiguous rounds). This gives the increase in cost from *1800 to *2000. A bit more money for a bit more flexibility.

To be a continuous effect you would have Goggle of Arcane Sight that always gave the wearer Arcance Sight. These would price out at (5 * 3 * 3000) * 2 [minutes per level duration] for a total market price of 60,000gp for a CL 5 Item.

This pricing model is the one followed by Googles of Night which grant a continuous darkvision effect and have a market price of (3 * 2 * 2000) which is the listed 12,000gp for a CL3 item.
