Hi there,

does anyone know a non-permanent method to avoid that my bard gets pregnant? I think, it would be one of the first spells a female bard would develop, since being a hero is a full-time job ;) Any suggestions?

Are you actually role-playing this (wait...don't answer that...)

I'd just assume that this is one of those things that doesn't really need to be taken care of, but if you want something, just develop a cantrip to do it. It will never have any use in combat, or at least i hope not.

I want to know what kind of game you're playing in if you need this information. I mean, most games would suffice with "You didn't get pregnant." Are you actually rolling for pregnancy and whatnot? Are there any circumstance modifiers? Surely you're not roleplaying this, are you? :) Just thinking about all this entails is striking me as exceedingly funny. I'd go into more detail, but with this being a public forum and all...

Ok, I'm done now. I don't know of any such magic that will help you.

Good gaming.

The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting lists a couple of herbs that render one infertile (but not impotent!) for several days; Cassil works on males, and Narraroot on females. No magic required, just a bit of knowledge about herbalism...

Magic of Faerun also lists a Potion of Infertility that works for about a month.

i tried prestigation, but the DM says, the bard has to use a transmutation spell like polymorph self + spell craft check, since it is no bard spell, and i wonder, if there are other easier spells for this problem.

@Ricohard_Draconis: I think it is possible to discuss this topic without going into detail

Alter self would do the trick if you used it right. I mean, if you alter yourself to look like a guy, well, um, I think that's as far as I'm going to take this one.

i don't see it as a big issue... don't know what's all the fuss about...

my character got pregnant.. and i understand why don't you want that to happen to your PC... it's fun cause it's real life-like but can cause problems to your adventuring career...
although there are many uses for adventurer's kids- for instance one of my former characters(a male paladin of Helm whom i played seven/eight years ago) had three kids- i continued playing with the oldest one till i got bored of her (she was a bard) and continued playing(and still am after six years) with the middle child... and now she has a son and...
i actually adopted a second kid (a daughter)...

considering contraception- in 2nd edition there was an unofficial handbook - Book of carnal knowledge or something of the sort...
but in 3rd ed. you can use the potions and herbs described in MAgic of Faerun and FR Setting...

Thx. Our DM "resettled" our group to Faerun last week. I see, it was good for something ;)

@Boldtalon: It could be fun, but i think it is not practicable that my bard and the wizard walk through the dungeons with a buggy.

@Will Harvy: The Story: Our lvl 10 wizard found an artefact that helped him in several ways, of course, quid pro quo. His alignmend changed to chaotic evil and one demand of this stone was to humiliate every group member. For the female bard, he had chosen to try his spell "Dominate person".
DM: "OK. I'll roll a d20. Any number but the 1: nothing happens." He rolled a 1 and the bard got pregnant.
The wizard lost his "deamon stone", and his alignmend changed to lawful neutral. After several punishments from the groupmembers, he was allowed to rejoin.

Since that, the bard is looking for several spells like contraceptive spells, spells like "conjure nanny", "conjure industructable buggy" etc., but found out, that most arcane and divine spells were created by male persons ;)

There could definitely be uses for a more broad range contraceptive spell, something that would ward off "reproduction" of any sort. It would be affective not only in a mundane sense, but also against creatures such as Xill, Spidereaters, and Slaadi. Maybe even protect again undead spawn abilities? Of course, that wouldn't keep your character from dying... just from becoming a horrid little monster of the night.

I think a level 3 abjuration might be about right.

There's a 3rd party book out called Book of Erotic Fantasy. Give it a look. All sorts of fun things, like temporary infertility spells, prices for contraceptives/sexual toys, and sex-based prestige classes.

Likely after having called the wizard several rather nasty names, and told the DM he didn't deserve to sit behind that screen for letting something like that happen.

The alignment change was a process of 6 month and it was pretty interesting to watch the character turning into evil. And of course, i could have taken it personal, but it was much funnier to see the inplay consequences and punishments for the wizard

Depends on the group, really. Trust me on this, some groups are even sicker than this and love it.

Prestidigitation should be the only spell you would need. The other abilities of that spell are far greater than the effect you are trying to accomplish. B.S. about needing to polymorph and or use any other spell above 0th level to avoid conception is ridiculous. Pregnancy is not a statistical condition in the D&D rules, and the real-world costs, means, and methods needed to prevent it are virtually negligible. As far as D&D is concerned, you shouldnt even need spells to do so, a simply craft (alchemy) or craft (herbalism) check could create some form of medicinal item that would prevent conception.

If your DM is being an :censored: then custom research a 0th level spell to accomplish the same thing, otherwise a Prestidigitation effect is more than capable of doing the job. Anything more is simply the result of a DM punishing you for being a female character.

dev a new cantrip. or use herbs or potions....

TBH i have to agree with some of the others here. Your DM is out of order and so was the player. No matter how good your roleplaying there are limits.

If you are playing an evil guy you dont roleplay the actual torture of your vics etc.

I would of walked our, but first I would of broken most of the bones in the players & the DMs bodies.

Our group doesn't consist of perverse SM weirdos. Evil, sexual or otherwise offensive actions are described as short and neutral as possible. And I think discussion about morale and ethics in Fantasy RPGs is futile. Hey, you get rewards for slaying creatures (XP)... and a family planning bard is perv? I just don't get it... :embarrass

The simpliest way is to provoke an haemorrhage an then heal you. This is the way our grand mothers had to do it, but healing spells in D&D change everything.
Prestidigitation is ok for prevention (clean effect) but can't do anything later.

there are other ways to shame someone. but thats neither here nor there.

now i wont get into the moral argument cus i dont whant my house blown up by fanatics, but there is a couple of ways

drugs / herbs / potion etc.

some sort of negative energy could work.....

limited wish

girdle of male / female (the cursed item)

however you may want to give some thought to the game potential of keeping the child.

think how much fun it would be having to long term baby sitters for months on end etc.

or depending on your level you and the party may want to settle down for a time. add some years, get some standing in the community. get a house etc.

I somehow doubt they would have found it as easily acceptable if it had been one of the male characters getting bent over as "humiliation".

Yes, you've made it clear, and you keep making it clear despite the original poster's insistance that she is ok with what happened. That's all that really matters, no?

MissC, you said that your bard already got pregnant, so what would be the use of finding a contraceptive spell now?

So you're happy moving the scenario from one of role-playing in a mature environment to the threat of real physical violence?

If you find the situation uncomfortable don't read the thread and don't take part in such games. End of problem. No one needs to have your will imposed on them, with the threat of broken bones to back you up.

On another note, if you have a cleric and your DM has the ideology that a baby is a parasite sucking the life from you(I've known a bunch of people who think this sadly) remove disease might work. Also a chastity belt would be great too. Make it out of adamantine and enchant it. Pretty hard to get through that. ;)

It's only the female characters getting pregnant, right, but rape is a humiliation for male and female characters.

@Will Harvey: Yes, but she has no use for more children.

@Graouh: The bard is chaotic good and I don't think that she would destroy unborn life and I'm even unsure if she would give the child to the next temple (since the group's paladin still suffers from beeing left alone at a temple in his childhood, and paladins tend to be very stubborn ;) ).

And I think, the solution with those Faerun Herbs is the best and I'll ask the DM if remove curse would work ;)

There's a 3rd party book around somewhere, something like Erotic Fantasy. Definitly Mature Audience material. It has some 3.5 ed compliant rules for these topics, tastefully done, and it has several contraceptive spells in it.

Given that alchemy is capable of things like thunderstones and inks that can only be read by starlight, I would suggest that a simple Craft: Alchemy check or a visit to the local alchemist's shop could produce a useable contraceptive. Alternately, you could have the party wizard Polymorph Any Object you into something not fertile to humans, then change you back later.

 Jonathan Swift would be so proud.

I'll go with either Craft (alchemy) or Profession (herbalist) on this one. As for an spell, why not? It strikes me as something more than a few spellcasters, male or female, would find useful for social reasons alone.

It cuts both ways, of course: such a spell would likely be countered or dispelled by one that was designed to increase fertility (again, a spell that would be very much in demand with a number of people), which should probably be equal in level to the spell you seek. What level would you make that spell?

Would you make the spell require a willing target? This would have a lot of effect on the level of the spell in question. If it can be placed on the unwilling, then it's probably on par with the 3rd level bestow curse (which you might allow to cover infertility). It has no combat effect, but it is a nasty thing to do to someone.

If it requires a willing target, then I'd suggest a 1st level spell. While you could make a case for the usefulness of prestidigitation, that spell lasts for only one hour, which can be inconvenient at best (not so bad compared to modern methods, however) and risky at worst.

("Wait, he just cast a spell? What does that mean?" "Is she an assassin?" "Am I doing this of my own free will?" "Was I enslaved by him years ago and is our marriage just a lie?" "He" to "she" are practically interchangable here.)

With a 1st level spell, you can look at a renewable effect that lasts a day or several days, which is far more convenient and has more application where there's a risk of other matters that are not suitable to discuss on this board.

Consider giving the spell a dismissible duration as well. If it's one the target can dismiss on him- or herself, consider increasing the spell level to 2nd or adding some other condition.

I won't give hard or fast rules on what level such a spell should be, because even that issue can get drawn into ethical disputes. Anything more really does belong on the Mature Boards.
