I have a 15th level Druid and finally the game has moved outdoors. I''m hoping to use Control Winds to control the battlefield a bit, in the open and against large groups, but am curious about the 1st segment of the spell. Do tornado strength winds pop up immediately after the casting or does the wind strength have to increase over several rounds?

- trying to prepare for a shock reaction from my GM.

Thx!

You change the weather in the local area. It takes 10 minutes to cast the spell and an additional 10 minutes for the effects to manifest. You can call forth weather appropriate to the climate and season of the area you are in.

Alas, it takes a good deal of time to work up that wind, but if you have the ability to cast well ahead of a planned battle, this is the ultimate battlefield control. Also good for wrecking cities.

I'd like to know something too: Tornados suck you in if you are close, but they do not define close since tornados are much smaller than the rest of a storm in the spell effect. By researching real math I discovered the funnel to be 250 ft and 'close' out to 500 ft, but that seems a bit much. If anyone knows that part, it'll be great.

Thx for the reply but that's Control Weather from the SC. I'm looking for input on the Control Winds from the PH.

It seems really nasty.

Oops, so you did. Well then... *Checks Control Winds*

Nice.... and as far as I can tell, yeah, by RAW the winds whip up in the 1 standard action it takes to appear.

Man, I'm gonna have to get me this spell.

Since it's so powerful I'm expecting an 'interpretation' differing from RAW, even though I plan on using this sparingly. My DM doesn't like surprises.

In addition, one of the BBEGs is a druid so I'm expecting pay back if he lets it go as written. But wildshaping to Huge will keep me on the ground so I can cast Dispel Greater using natural spell.

Thx for your input.
