I posted this spell in another thread, but got little pick up, so I thought I'd start its own thread. I happened to be browsing through some of my Dragonlance books and noticed a cool spell in Key of Destiny called Energy Barrier on page 156. It's a 3rd level druid 4th level Cleric/Sor/Wiz spell that lets you put up an immobile protective barrier against acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic energy and their residual effects (e.g. fire: also blocks heat and lava, acid: water, cold: snow, etc.). Presumably from the description, this amorphous barrier can completely surround you if you like and the duration is "concentration +1 round/level," which could be huge in some circumstances. Two questions: Are Dragonlance spells kosher here on the boards? This spell appears to be broken to me. What do you think? LoR
Lord_of_Rivendell 12-17-07, 06:41 PM	I should add that the spell apparently lets the caster shape the barrier at 10 cubic feet/caster level. It doesn't specifically state this, but the description envisions the caster creating a bubble that would protect a character from water, but not provide nourishment or air. LoR
Lord_of_Rivendell 12-20-07, 11:28 AM	Another interesting thing about this spell is the duration. I make reference to this above, but I want to shine some light on this point. The language specifically says "Concentration + rounds/level". To me this is amazing. Are there any other spells that use this duration? This reads to me that the spell will last as long as the caster can concentrate and then a number of rounds equal to the caster's level. For this spell, it would enable the caster to protect her party from being flooded, engulfed in lava, eaten up by an acid pool, etc., for as long as it takes. LoR

An absolute barrier to such a wide range of energy (I get that you have to choose) is quite cool. Does that spell say that you can form it into whatever shape you want? I have no idea whether it's legal to use Dragonlance stuff here.
