| sjogren12-31-04, 05:20 AM | Hey guys, I'm kinda confused when it comes to cooperative item creation. From what I understand, several casters can cooperate to create a magic item, contributing different spell prerequisites. At least, I sure hope so since there seems to be both wondrous items and staffs that have both arcane and divine spells as prerequisites! Is it defined somewhere exactly which item creation feats this applies to? What exactly is a "prerequisite"? I mean, if I want to make a scroll or wand of a certain spell, does that count as a "prerequisite spell"? Can my wizard (with the Craft Wand feat) work together with a cleric to make a wand of cure light wounds? How about a scroll of cure light wounds? How about a scroll of a spell that's both arcane and divine, will the scroll be arcane or divine? I'm sure I'll think of more questions if I think about this some more, but this'll do for now. ;) |
| Gemstone12-31-04, 06:35 AM | Two casters can co-operate when creating magical item by providing money or spells. If a wizard wants to create a wand of cure light wounds, he needs to find someone who can cast the spell and the wand will be divine if its a divine caster who casts the spell, and arcane if its an arcane caster who casts the spell. Oh, Im swedish to by the way |
| sjogren12-31-04, 07:50 AM | Er. Wands are neither arcane nor divine, are they? Anyway, I'm more interested in how it works for scrolls. It would be useful if my wizard and one of the party clerics (none of them have scribe scroll) could sit down for a few days and make some utility scrolls, since our clerics never seem to have the right spells prepared. :-P On the other hand, if that's allowed, that kind of opens up a can of worms if you've got a party with both a wizard and, say, a warmage. Could they cooperate on scribing a scroll for every spell the warmage knows so that the wizard could then learn them? How about a 12th level warlock? It's sort of the same can of worms as with the Eberron artificer, only the warmage and warlock are arcane casters whereas the artificer is neither arcane nor divine... |

The DMG doesn't place limits cooperative magic item creation other than one of the 'creators' must supply the entire XP cost. Now, if you are asking if cooperation on scribing a scroll is a good idea, I'd have to say that I don't believe it is. I can't comment on the Articifer, but the Warlock never learns any spells, so a wizard could never scribe them to a scroll if you allowed such. |
| Nom12-31-04, 09:25 AM | by DMG pg 215, it is legal for such cooperation to occur. So yes, one character in the party could learn a particular item creation feat and everyone else could use that feat to create appropriate items. If you're worried about sorcerers' teaching spells to wizards', you could always house-rule that bard/sorcerer spells can't be placed on scrolls. I haven't explored the consequences and implications of this, however. |
| sjogren12-31-04, 10:11 AM | My point with the warlock was that at level 12 the warlock gets the ability to substitute UMD checks for spell prerequisites, just like the Eberron artificer. If you take scribe scroll as a feat at level 12, you can churn out lots and lots of scrolls for your wizard partner. If you can do it cooperatively with him, you don't even need to take a feat... That's the can of worms I'm talking about. :) *I'm* not worried, but I'm guessing that if I should play a warlock at some time, my *DM* might be. ;) |
