Cooperative turning? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I seem to remember reading something about cooperative turning/rebuking undead - two (or more) clerics simultaneously turning in order to turn more powerful undead than they could usually otherwise. The problem is, I can't find the source now.

Is this just another version of the "aid another" action or does it require a specific feat? If it's an aid another action, is the turning DC 10 (like using the aid another action to assist an attack roll or skill check), or does it depend on the undead being turned/rebuked? Does success result in a +2 bonus to the aided cleric's turn check, the turning damage roll, or both?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sorry, I can't think of anything, but it sounds fair, or you could create a feat if there is none in existence that could allow more than +2, like add your wis modifier, but maybe the clerics would have o worship the same deity.

How about something like this?

Co-Operative Turning
Prerequisites: Cleric or efective cleric level 3, Turn undead ability
Benefit: When Attepting to turn undead, you may delay your action until another cleric of the same deity Turns undead. When you do so, You roll one single Turning check per 2 clerics, and add the sum of both Cha Modifiers to the roll. You Both then turn undead as normal.

I would think that the one cleric has to achieve a Turn Check result of 10+ to "aid", and his aid, regardless of the roll, would grant the "main cleric" a +2 on his turn check for maximum HD.

It would be kind of weird to have a cleric turn against DC 10. The turning check has to do with the maximum number of HD an undead creature can have, so there isn't really any way to get 'better' at assisting at turning, except for boosting your charisma. Even 'improved turning' wouldn't work, because it boosts your effective cleric level for turning by 1 (if I remember correctly) but the turning check remains the same.

-> A level 1 cleric with charisma 16 would be better at helping someone turn than a level 20 cleric with charisma 14.

Five or more ranks in Knowledge (religion) gives a +2 bonus to the turn roll (so it's d20 + Charisma bonus + 2).

Heighten Turning (from Libris Mortis) allows you to add any number up to your (effective) cleric level to your turning roll, but you have to subtract the same number from your turning damage roll.

Another way it might work is for one cleric to sort of bolster the other. Cleric #1 makes a turning attempt on cleric #2. If the check succeeds, the Hit Dice result on table 8-9: Turning Undead becomes cleric #2's effective level for turning. For bolstering undead, the RAW state that it only has an effect if the check result is higher than the creature's actual HD. Thus, if cleric #1 rolled bad, cleric #2 can just ignore the check and turn as normal.
