Personally I find t far too easy to resurrect someone accoring to the RAW, I mean what's the point of killing the BBEG if a dark cleric can bring him back to life? I've been trying to figure out some rules for controlling resurrection but none of these seem right to me, I still find myself thinking what's the point of even killing anyone? Anyways, this is what I've been thinking. 1) Body required no ifs ands or buts. 2) Resurrected player must succeed on a DC 10+1 per resurrection Fort save to come back to life and a DC 10+1 per resurrection Will save to come back in one mental piece 3) There is a 5% chance per resurrection that you will gain the attention of the Maruts. 4) Raise Dead does not exist. 5) The person to be raised can be dead for no longer then one day per point of Cha. <---- editted to be per point of Cha not Cha modifier Bah, I still don't think it's strict enough. Any suggestions or ideas? |

This is probably the best way to go. 2) Resurrected player must succeed on a DC 10+1 per resurrection Fort save to come back to life and a DC 10+1 per resurrection Will save to come back in one mental piece Eh, I'm iffy on that. [quote]3) There is a 5% chance per resurrection that you will gain the attention of the Maruts. Maruts are always fun. That and number 1 are good choices. 4) Raise Dead does not exist. I can see that killing the fun of a game pretty fast. 5) The person to be raised can be dead for no longer then one day per Cha modifier. That seems like more of an annoyance than a deterrant. Especially if one of the players gets killed. |
| syrinth02-12-06, 09:34 PM | As I said though, I really don't want my campaign to be a "Oh no, the rogue just got killed, pull out your money and get to the temple" and I'm not comfortable with not having clear-cut rules by which people can be resurrected. I don't wanna be put into a position where I'm arbitrarily deciding who can or can't be resurrected. Also because my players would wanna know why X cannot be resurrected, my players are the kind of people who read the books in the BBEGs office and wanna know what's inside them and look through the papers in the mayors office and wanna know what they're all about:D |

It traps a soul inside itself if a person is killed with it. So you use a dagger of it for the last blow then lose the dagger some place safe. No spell can bring them back unless they have the dagger. On the other hand the dm can rule that it takes some type of quest to convince the god of death to bring someone back to the land of the living. |
| syrinth02-12-06, 10:58 PM | Nice, I didn't know about that metal :D As for the god of death one, the souls go to the homeplane of their deity and they obviously need their deity's approval to leave. The question though is how do I not make arbitrary decisions on who can be resurrected with their deity's permission or not. |
| Mist of Shadows02-13-06, 12:46 AM | Well think about it this way. You dust the body it makes it a lot harder to raise the people. As for if you never want them to come back at all there is an item I absolutely hate but it's legit by the rules in the epic book there is a cloak that one of the npcs has in union. Part of the disposal guild that distroys a soul. (At least I'm pretty sure that's where it comes from.) There is the slightly evil way that costs a bit of gold. You seal the guy alive in a vault somewhere with a ring of regeneration and an item that makes it so they don't have to eat. It's mean it's nasty but after you wall up the big bad guy that keeps coming back. A few non detection spells are good as well. Trap the guy in one of the possitive alignend planes that heal with a permenant blade barrior spell (or similiar) that does just enough to keeps the creature in agony. Alright these are evil ideas but they tend to stop dms from bringing npcs bad to deal with you. |

Pull out that Player's Guide, it's time to make a new level 1 character to replace him!" |
