| MystErikEry01-23-05, 05:07 PM | That's all it costs to copy a spell into your spellbook, but you also have to decipher it first, and if you're "borrowing" it from another spellcaster, you're going to have to pay for the priveledge of copying it out... |
| Seeker9501-23-05, 07:31 PM | Why do you think there must be more cost than that? A first level wizard starts off with 3-6 spells in his book. That gives him a total of 300-500gp worth of equipment just to start. As a wizard goes up in level, it costs even more to expand the book. Assuming a 10th level wizard has the exact number of spells in his book as he is able to cast, that makes his book worth 4300gp, assuming he added no more than that. Good thing he gets two for free at each level! |
| steventirey198501-23-05, 07:54 PM | Seeker, your also forgetting that a first level wizards spellbook also contains all 0-level spells. Each one also takes up one page. So your average 1st level wizard (w/ 14 int for example) would have 19 0-level spells and 5 first level spells, for a total of 24 pages filled. Thats a 2400gp item that a first level wizard gets for essentially (sp?) free! |
| MystErikEry01-23-05, 10:09 PM | Well, I'd like to see a 1st level wizard survive without one. Even if he sold his spellbook and kept only one spell (Magic Missile, for example) he'd still suck more than anyone else in the party, even after buying more equipment with his funds from his spellbook. Wizards don't do that, anyway. They tend to want to know every spell ever, just for completion's sake. Unless, of course, they're specialists. Then they're out to get everything they specialize in, and everyone else is just bonus. |
