our group is entering into the epic realms were the casters that we are going against are able to cast 2,3,4 or even 5 spells a round. My question is how many times can you counter spell an oppenent in a round? can you counter an quicken spell with your own quicken spell? can you counter a still or a silent spell? with one of your own? Can you counter an Epic Spell such as Hell Ball or greater ruin? and what kind spell do you need to cast to counter those spells?

You can always counter a spell with itself. So if badguy is casting fireball, you cast fireball to counter (requires a readied action or a class feature/magic item to do the same). You can also use the dispel magic spells.
Other than that, if you are going up against casters that can cast 5 times a round then I'm sure other rules can be bent/broken as well.

I'm not much of an expert on magic, but IIRC, to counter a spell you either need a prepared spell from the Dispel Magic family (probably an epic variant to counter epic spells) or you need to have a prepared copy of the exact same spell the other person is trying to cast.

Quickened spells I'm not sure about, still or silent spells you ought to be able to counter using the same spell he's casting. Still and Silent just prevent the inability to move or speak from stopping his spellcasting attempt. If your DM rules a still/silent spell makes it impossible to identify what spell he's casting, that'd be another story, mind you.

As far as how many times can you counter, I'd say it would be limited by how many times you can cast per round and/or the number of applicable counterspells you have prepared, whichever is lower. The RAW may very well contradict me on that. As I say, I don't know much about spells since I don't play spellcasters often.

but it says you need a ready action so how many ready action could you do could you have a quickened dispel magic and use it to counter a oppenents qiuckened and then cast your standerd action dispel magic to dispel again in a round?

What you need is this baby...
Epic Counterspell [Epic]

You can counterspell any number of spells each round.

Prerequisites: Combat Reflexes, Improved Counterspell, Improved Initiative, Quicken Spell, Reactive Counterspell, Spellcraft 30 ranks.

Benefit: Any number of times per round, you can counterspell an opponent's spell even if you have not readied an action to do so. This counterspell doesn't count against your later actions. You can even use this feat when flat-footed.

Normal: Without this feat, you must ready an action each round you wish to use a counterspell. If you have the Reactive Counterspell feat, you can counterspell an opponent's spell if you haven't readied an action, but only once per turn and not when flat-footed.

Special: This feat should be considered part of the epic bonus feat list for any class that grants access to spells of at least 6th level as part of normal (nonepic) class progression (for example, bards, clerics, druids, sorcerers, and wizards), as well as for any prestige class that grants "+1 level of existing class" spell progression at all levels.
Combine with archmage's mastery of counterspelling...:D

Combine it with Srinshee's Spell Shift (Lost Empires of Faerun, sorry don't remember what page) and BAM! you never run out of spells to counter with (since you get the slot back).

Indeed, my own "Capstone Character" (a character that represents the pinnacle of power you will ever play) had improved counterspell and a power that allows him to cast more efficiently (using the spellpoints system, spells cost him 3 less points than normal to cast)- so as long as he has a s[ell of each school available at each level (not hard at 46th caster level)- he can counter any number of spell for an infinite amount of time and end up with more spellpoints than he started with.
