A two-part search of the forums didn't reveal precisely what I was looking for, so I've elected to post in the hope that an answer will be provided by someone kind enough to share their thoughts.

I've a druid in my game and, being new the game, the player of the druid has recently discovered the joys of entangle. Can't say I blame him a bit; it's a marvelous spell. I've noticed that the spell is nearly its own counter, in that it hampers movement for both allies and enemies alike. That said, however, I'm seeking a magical means to counter entangle. Dispel magic has been considered but discounted as not creative enough. I *would* use dispel magic, but only if I'm not able to come up with something more creative. Other possible counters thus far number enlarge for its Strength bonus, cat's grace for its Dexterity bonus, barbaric rage, and both silence and darkness as preventative measures.

If anyone has any thoughts at all regarding countering entangle, I'd love to hear them.

Thank you. :)

1.Grease can help you with Escape, a nice +10 to the roll.
2.Antiplant Shell works wonders.

Though the best one may be more preventive.....

3.Scorch The Earth. The big weakness of the spell is that it needs plants to be cast on. Blast the plants away and there is nothing to cast the spell on. along the same line, you can simply pick your battlefeild. If your fighting on the muddy river bed, there are no plants for at least 10 feet around.

I wonder if he knows about Creeping Cold (and Extending it...).

Entangle is a pretty good spell early in the game when there is a very tough chance to break free.

Thank your stars he isn't an Anthropomorphic Monkey with 22 Wisdom.

Blight, and it's a druid spell.

Wow, I think you just found the only conceiveable use for blight. I'm impressed.

Sorry, that spell is a severe thorn in my side. As a damage spell, it is utterly useless, since it is a specific creature type only touch spell that does as much damage as a ranged AoE spell at the same level, and has a save that is a good save for all creatures of that type. I just literally don't see how this spell can be useful in combat, even if the damage is untyped.

Actually, he hasn't. That doesn't work. Blight can kill only a single plant, and entangle typically involves hundreds.

Damn it, I forgot that. I thought it affected an area when I was posting, though that only happens in one of my many rewrites of the spell.

Well, it still could work if it were only one plant in the AoE of the entangle spell, which is highly unlikely, but possible. Maybe they got caught up in just one really large bush in the middle of a desert?

Just an edition note. In 3.0 Blight did effect an area and I did sometimes memorize it as a cleric. Very useful since I had the Travel Domain and was also an Archer ... lets just clear all the terrain and "volley at will". 3.5 both eliminates it as a Cleric spell and wiped the area effect from the description. It was, however, also high on the list of let's just convert that to a cure spell when I needed to put some healing down.
