| Count_Vladmir03-05-05, 02:46 AM | Sorry if this has been asked before, but the search is down.... Can Spell-Like Abilities be countered? It seems to indicate that they have no material or somatic components, so to me it looks like a countering mage wouldn't be able to identify the ability before it is cast. Am I right? Are they Uncounterable? |
| strenoth03-05-05, 05:04 AM | actually, it specifically mentions that Spell Like Abilities can not be counterspelled, nor can the be used for counter spelling, in the Monster Manual I beleive using Dispell Magic to counterspell still works how ever, as you are simply negating magic in general instead of weaving an identical-but-opposing spell to negate the first one. |
| Vatras03-05-05, 12:20 PM | No, spell-like abilities cannot be counterspelled (see DMG and rulings on this website), making them slightly more robust than spells (not very many use counterspelling). Spellcraft does only allow to identify spells and not spell-like abilities, and it does not work on some manipulated spells either (silent, stilled and eschewed...when the caster just has to look, you are pretty clueless). |

| Odin_66603-07-05, 08:54 AM | page 180 in the players handbook also tells you, that they cannot be counterspelled |
