| SunTzuWarmaster04-07-07, 07:26 PM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicOverview/castingSpells.htm You counter by sacraficing a prepared spell of equal level. It is not a hostile action or targetting a square with an enemy (but you make noises doing it), so I don't believe that it causes visibility. If you have prepared a 4th level dispel, yes, it will counter a 4th level spell... just like a Polymorph would. Countering is done by sacking the spell, and is not a spell. Thus, it cannot benefit from metamagic. |
| Seeker9504-07-07, 07:58 PM | From that same link: How Counterspells Work To use a counterspell, you must select an opponent as the target of the counterspell. A counterspell is offensive and has a target (the opponent's spell). It will turn you visible. |
| runestar04-07-07, 10:05 PM | Does a heightened dispel spell counter better? No. Dispel magic's spell lv has nothing to do with its dispel check whatsoever. Can countering benefit from (metamagic) feats? Unlikely, unless the feat in question somehow mentions that it improves counterspelling in some way. A maximized, empowered fireball can still be countered by a normal fireball spell. |
