Dissipate
Abjuration [chaotic]
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Target: One spellcaster
Duration: Intantaneous
Saving Throw: No
Spell Resistance: No
You can use this spell to attempt to counterspell any hostile magic being used against you. This works in a fashion similar to using dispel magic as a counterspell, but you get a +2 bonus to your dispel check. If succesful, the target spell's energy is converted into a number of 0-level spells.
For each level of the target spell, two random cantrips (or orisons) are created that behave as if the dispelled spell's caster had just cast them. Any choices the caster would make for these spells (e.g. targets) are instead determined randomly.

Confusing? Yes. Funny? Perhaps. Usable? You decide. Balanced? ...

Cheers,
KW

It seems balanced to me (a +2 on the roll and being a level higher than Dispel Magic), and would definitely be entertaining. But it seems like a lot of dice rolling. You might be better off having it just do one or two cantrips, regardless of the spell countered. Just less bookkeeping and dice-rolling.

I love the idea though!

I'd probably summarize it as converting the countered spell into "a number of minor magical effects, such as creating bowls of petunias in mid air, or turning the spellcaster different colors over the next few rounds."

Love the concept. Would probably pick it up if I could have a higher bonus on the dispell check (with a corresponding increase to caster level).

...My CG sorc has been trying to design a counterspell spell. The difference is, he wants one that he can cast as an immediate action.

nice idea. however I would make it 1 cantrip per level with random locations between the caster & target. maybe make a table like the wand of wonder, but lower power

If you look on the Defend yourself thread, there is a feat posted that allows you to Reactively cast a spell. However sinse your a sorcerer you can't use the feat. You might want to house rule you can if your dm is cool, and if you want to go the legit way, then i would suggest looking at duel ward in complete arcane and working from there. There are also two spells under review here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=324979) that you might like.
