| Thurbane07-27-06, 04:13 AM | Does Counterspelling count as an attack for the purposes of an Invisibility spell? My gut feeling is that no, since it is not truly an attack. Maybe I am missing something obvious, but there is still a nagging doubt in my mind. |
| Leilond07-27-06, 05:52 AM | SRD For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe. Does the Dispel magic contain in his area an enemy? Does the Dispel magic is targeted on an enemy? Does the Dispel magici is targeted on an ememy's item? If the answer to at least one of this question is YES, than it is considered an attack |
| tarkin07-27-06, 11:03 AM | If I fireball you it is an attack, because you take hitpoint damag.e If I cast a save or die spell (save negates), it is an attack because you could die, even though you can't take hitpoint damage. If I cast a Hold Person on you, it is STILL an attack because you lose the battle even though you don't take hitpoitns and can't die. If I cast Slow on you, it is STILL an attack because you are seriously impaired. If I get rid of your spell, I am attacking your spell, so it is STILL an attack. Things that are not an attack: 1) Buffs/heals/fixes on yourself or an ally 2) Information getting spells 3) Spells that bring an ally to you even though that ally might make an attack. 4) Any spell that does not interact with your opponent. |

| Vegepygmy07-27-06, 05:39 PM | Does Counterspelling count as an attack for the purposes of an Invisibility spell?"To use a counterspell, you must select an opponent as the target of the counterspell." PHB, page 170. "For purposes of this spell, an attack includes any spell targeting a foe or whose area or effect includes a foe." PHB, page 245. Seems pretty clear to me. |
| Thiez07-27-06, 06:19 PM | Ok, convinced me! :) |

Great, that's what I was looking for - many thanks. |
