Extraordinary Artisan and Homunculus costs [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-20-06, 12:18 PM My Artificer has the Extraordinary Artisan feat. He's also able to Craft Homunculus as a class ability. Let's say he wants to make an Iron Defender. The cost is listed in the Campaign Standards as 1375gp. Nothing is mentioned about getting a discount for the Extraordinary Artisan feat. Also, if I want to add more HD to the Iron Defender, the cost is 2000gp per HD according to the Eberron Campaign Setting book. Do I get a discount on that cost due to Extraordinary Artisan feat?

Page 8 of the 2.0 Campaign Standards: "Extraordinary Artisan: Taking this feat allows characters to craft items for half the campaign value instead of 3/4 the value. Game effects that reduce the cost of crafting an item (like the caster's shield) do not stack with this feat."

02-21-06, 12:43 AM So the cost for creating an Iron Defender in MoH is as follows:

With No feats: 1375
With Extraordinary Artisan: 1032
With Extraordinary Artisan & Craft Construct: 688 (which would need to be on your expansion list)

03-16-06, 06:05 PM The cost of the iron defender homunculus is reduced from its given value (the market price for one would be 3575 gp). The price they give seems to be derived by some unknown method, so I'd assume it wouldn't interact with Extrodinary Artisan. At least not in a predictable way.

The cost of adding a Hit Die to a homunculus is 2000 gp and 160 XP. That's the same as an item with a market value of 4,000 gp. With the 3/4 reduction for being able to do it yourself that would be 3,000 gp per HD. Assuming Extradorinary Artisan applied, you should be able to add a HD for 2,000 EV. Of course I'm not a judge and this is all extrapolation.
