| jeffpicard06-05-05, 02:48 AM | This has been asked of me, and I'm not completly certain of the answer: if the option in the character tracker to use a fastplay character as a creation card the way to adopt the character and continue to advance it, as well as get some actual use out of the mini unlock ability? The only mention about always playing them as printed is in the take one for the team option, if this were to apply universally then the dwarf artificer's ability would be absolutley useless because you can't spend its unspent reserve. If this is correct then what must they keep when they do advance? everything on the sheet? And a further query about the human fighters, if they can do the above, can they switch which base human fighter they are? |

| samthegiant01-01-06, 12:16 PM | I sent the question to dispelconfusion now... Please forgive me if I have missed something, but I can't seem to find any additional clarification on this question. In particular I am most interested in what retooling changes and advancement can be made to the Gnome Cleric and the Kobold Wizard Fastplay characters while still allowing them to keep their special miniature unlock abilities? I didn't find anything definitive with these searches: Google Mark of Heroes fastplay unlocks search at www.wizards.com (http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&as_qdr=all&q=+Mark+of+Heroes+fastplay+unlocks+site% 3Awww.wizards.com&btnG=Search) And Google Mark of Heroes fastplay unlocks search at boards1.wizards.com (http://www.google.com/search?as_q=+Mark+of+Heroes+fastplay+unl ocks&num=100&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=boards1.wizards.com&as_rights=&safe=off) Can anyone point me in the right direction? |

I don't see any reason why you would think you could modify the character and still use the unlock. Because some of the unlock abilities specificially addressing how they interact with characters who have advanced (IIRC, the ranger's allows you to get a discount on certain types of bows when you buy different equipment at start-up)? Taking one for the team isn't the only way you can use the fast-play characters, and the unlock isn't tied to "taking one for the team." Indeed, certain fastplay characters can't be used with taking one for the team (such as the artificer). |

This would seem to make sense to me. It offers an incentive to play with specific minis thus generating sales for WOTC. For the record, I would allow the newer, "unofficial" fastplays that are printed on the stat cards that state they are approved for MoH even though the Campaign Standards haven't been updated to list them. If this is correct then what must they keep when they do advance? everything on the sheet? I would think that after you have registered a fastplay as your character you can advance him as you wish. And a further query about the human fighters, if they can do the above, can they switch which base human fighter they are? My opinion is that once you have chosen one, that is who you play. After all, there now appears to be only one official fastplay human fighter available. You can't have it both ways; either the character is yours after registration OR you play it as written as in "taking one for the team". |
| Shadowed Intent01-08-06, 02:53 AM | A new player in my group started with the 4th level kobold wizard as a fast play character. He has advanced him and retooled him between sessions. He said that while he was registering his character, kobold was not a choice for race. He chose Wizard Fast Play Character as the starting card. He left race as according to creation card. Then he chose wizard as the class. That seems to have worked fine. His printed character record lists: Equip Value: 8000 Level: 5 Race: Kobold Starting Card: Wizard Fast Play Character Class: Wizard As for the miniature unlock ability, MoH Campaign Standards v1.02 Each fastplay character is keyed to a DUNGEONS & DRAGONS miniature. If you play a fastplay character with that miniature, it unlocks a bonus that works exactly like a campaign card.I found nothing that addressed the use of this ability if the character is retooled or advanced. I view it as an integerated campaign card. I would like to add that The Legacy of the Green Regent fastplay characters have an intro page which states the miniature unlock ability occupies a campaign card slot, and I apply that here also. I think an important point is that if the fastplay character is registered, then the player will have a printed character record for that fastplay character, and that is the character that will be awarded the XP and EV for the session. If the player is "taking one for the team", then the player will not have a printed character record for that fastplay character, and instead, the XP and EV for the session will be awarded to his default character. I would like to add here, that if the player is "taking one for the team", the MoHCS states, "You must play the fastplay character as published." This is how I have handled the situation. |
