| Slyde Shadowdart08-16-05, 11:51 PM | Okay, say I want to run "No Ticket" as a home event. My players are new to the RPGA, and so would be creating new characters. Since I can't download the previous adventure (since it's retired), is it kosher to just have the players write up 2nd level characters? Or do I need to run an adventure to get them to level 2? Sounds like a silly question, but I don't want to screw up (brand new players') player histories. Thanks! |
| MerricB08-17-05, 01:22 AM | It shouldn't matter too much, given you're running it as a Home game. If you were playing at a game day or at a convention, your PCs would have to be 1st level. The tracking system only cares about how successful they were. Incidentally, with the level kick occuring this weekend (I think), you may find that the PCs should be 4th level with 5000 gp. Cheers! |

That's what I'm wondering. I don't want to mess up their ability to play at games days and cons and such. Should I just totally put it off until the level kick? Arrrgh. Jumping in in the middle is a pain. |

(It's remarkable how often those new PCs look like the old ones. ;)) Before each event, the players will look online and see their current Level and GP totals for each active character, then use those to level up/equip their PCs. This isn't the same as a home campaign where the advancement is totally continuous. When were you planning on having the session? Cheers! |
| MerricB08-17-05, 02:12 AM | Just a note: Mark of Heroes encourages the DM to adapt the adventure so the players have a fun time. Cheers! |

I belive the last LotGR level bump was delayed until the middle of Winter Fantasy 2005, though. It's been officially started that the level bump will hti 4th level and 5000 GP, though. It really doesn't even matter when you have your game so much as when you report your game. Depending on when you have the game scheduled I'd say bump everybody to 4th then wait until the bump shows up to report the game. As long as yours is reported after the bump everything should apply OK. Andrew Beard |
| Slyde Shadowdart08-17-05, 09:15 PM | Thank you all for your responses. So, if I have this right, basically the PC's are created at whatever level it says they are online. Therefore, if they create a 4th level (after the bump) and play an adventure that I run, and then we report the game, their new characters will simply be recorded and tracked starting at 4th level? Sorry if it seems like none of this is sinking in, but I'm barely a week into the RPGA. :) Also, as to when I plan on running it, I'm not sure yet. I don't really have enough players to bother setting up an event and downloading a module yet. Basically, I'll run something as soon as I have enough interest. My current gaming group doesn't really do D&D (other than myself), so that's out. If I wanted to say, put up a flyer at a local game store, and have people just contact me, and take down the flyer once I had enough players, and then set up the event and play/record, would that work? Or can I not really hold that sort of event since I'm only a Herald Level DM? My understanding thus far, is that I'm pretty much limited to a: running home events & b: running game slots in someone else's event. I'm going to do some more researching here online, but in the meantime I really appreciate any help you guys care to offer. Dan |

(I did as a Herald level DM, and I don't think it's changed in the last year ;)) You could actually set up a convention as well... but I don't think you want to! A Home Game is basically just a private game; you need to order the adventure & set up the event at least 5 days before you run it. A Game Day is more public - it must be held at a public location, you have to set it up 2 weeks in advance (at which point the details are publically available), etc. You can run more things (and earlier) at a Game Day, but those are the basics. Cheers! |

Cool, I tought it was 2 weeks like the other !! That will help me in the future !! Thanks Merric !!! :) |
| Slyde Shadowdart08-18-05, 02:31 AM | Yes, thanks a bunch! Apparently, you need at least 25 ranks in "sort through fifty pages of random information that are scattered from here to Silverymoon and compile them into intelligible instructions" to actually run games in the RPGA. I suppose I'll put my next point into it, so at least I won't be attempting it untrained anymore. :D |
