| Kanenfawder01-29-07, 12:50 AM | I was wondering about something. A cloak of elvenkind (+5 hide) is available as a limited item at 2500gp. The DMG provides pricing guidelines for a similar item with a different skill bonus. A cloak with a +10 competence bonus to hide should cost 10000gp. Would this +10 cloak be available as a limited item, a locked item, or not at all? |

That said, you can get the same effect with an armor enchantment. Ed |
| Kanenfawder01-29-07, 11:06 AM | The problem with the armor is that it costs 15000 instead of 10000, which eats up a lot of funds. The price difference is there because it's a straight price for armor instead of a +1/+2/etc modification. Does anyone feel differently, or is there a general consensus that this type of 'custom' item isn't allowed? Has anyone heard anything official by chance? Here's an explanation of why I'm thinking this. There is no +1 Flaming Bastard Sword in the DMG. There are charts that give the value of one, but there's not an actual listing for it. There is no +1 Leather of Greater Shadow. There are charts that give the value of it, but there's no entry for it. They're both allowed, right? Thus, I don't see why a +10 cloak of hide wouldn't be allowed. |

The weapon and armor charts are there to show pricing for the thousands of weapon/armor combinations. The charts on skills and such are for DM's to gauge how much an item should be worth not to make any item you want. The rules are pretty clear on that one. Dave C |
