I'm trying to set a game day up in College Park, MD for October 29th, and I'd like to run a Mark of heroes mod. Do we have any idea if the two Origins mods will be available by then for game day play?

The Origins mods seem to have evaporated. The Gen Con mods are available for conventions starting on 10/24, but not for Game Days until December. I would REALLY like to know when there Origins mods will show up, myself, as they were "optimized" for 2nd level characters and we're all minimum 4th level, now, with some at 6th. Because of this, they may just ditch the Origins mods, rather than having to re-work them or have them run at too low a level.

I sincerely hope this isn't the case. If you're right, there would be a two month stint between the expiration of EMH-3 and the next published mod. DM's Marks are a great idea, but entirely unsuited to events that are planned more than a month in advance as they tend to be come up in the system the first day they're available for play.

Mark of Heroes seems like such a great idea in theory but such a poor on in practice. DM's Marks are a great idea for home play, but the module availability really limits MoH home play. They aren't very good for conventions because of the limited availability and the fact that you can't pull in a reserve judge for a DM's Mark if they haven't already prepped it. The normal module availability really seems to cator to convention play though, with the mod premiring months before it's available elsewhere, then a month or two before it's available for home play (doesn't last long, anyway).

Mark of Heroes seems to try to appeal to the two extremes, but not really live up to eithers' expectations.

Yeah, you hit it right on the head. The D&D Campaigns opens up some new alternatives for the people who do not or cannot participate in the Living campaigns. The level bumps and rules for play (equipment refresh, re-tooling, etc.) give dedicated players the chance to test out options and character builds. The Fastplay and reporting structure let casual players get into a game without too much hassle.

Unfortunately, the state of the RPGA HQ right now ends up emphasizing all the negatives rather than accentuating the positives. The structure of the D&D Campaigns pretty much demands that modules get released early in the level-bump cycle and stay active for the full term of the level bump. Just the opposite happens. Modules are released late in the cycle (either due to poor management or convention-first rules), meaning many times people have no access to mods at all, or they get old mods after the level bump has already occurred.

It's too bad, because Eberron is a great setting that deserves better representation than it is getting.
