| Jay_Ibero_91106-09-06, 10:42 PM | Does the gold value limit on how expensive an item you can have at a given level apply to the base cost of an item, or how much it actually costs you, like if you have the relevant item creation feat and extraordinary artisan feat? |
| drDRFAUSTUS06-10-06, 02:38 PM | Another purchasing question: I know that perishable items cost 5 times as much in MoH when buy equipment before the adventure... but does that cost carry over for in game purchases? One of my group says yes and had a good argument, but I have played with DMs who said no, or ruled that in game items only cost 2 times as much. What say you? |
| smerwin2906-10-06, 04:53 PM | The max cost of items you can purchase remains whether you get discounts or not. So even if you can buy something for cheaper because of class abilities or feats, you still have to go buy the normal price. If you get a chance to buy something in game, you can buy it at the normal price rather than the 5 times price. However, anything you purchase at that price goes away at the end of the mod, and does not carry over like things you purchase before the adventure. |
| grahamdrew06-10-06, 10:13 PM | I thought that too until I ran EMH-10. In the GM's section they have a list of items that are available in-game (magical weapon amunition and a few oils) and corresponding prices that are definitly multiplied by 5. Andrew Beard |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-11-06, 01:41 AM | If bought with Cash on Hand in the module consumables should cost normal. I use this for my Artificer to stop by the local Discount Artificer Warehouse to grab ointments of spices, a couple pearls and maybe some diamond dust. As a judge I'm fine with it for a couple items but if the list started getting too long and entailed many stops at different types of shops I might have a problem. But, if all they are looking for is a Wand of CLWs and a couple everbright lanterns I'd be cool with that. |

I use this for my Artificer to stop by the local Discount Artificer Warehouse to grab ointments of spices, a couple pearls and maybe some diamond dust. I would think that it should cost the normal amount as well, and that's the way I ran it prior to reading EMH-10. However, the table in EMH-10 is definitly using the campaign (x5) cost for purchasing items in-game, when the only funds available would be cash on hand. Not saying it's right or wrong, just how the rules seem to be laid out. Andrew Beard |
| smerwin2906-11-06, 08:58 AM | If an adventure lists the costs as 5 times normal for purchasing items, then I stand corrected. |
| Madfox1106-12-06, 04:09 AM | And it costs x5 for obvious reasons. Your EV that is not used gets transferred to Cash on Hand. If these items would not cost x5 if you buy them during the adventure, you should never by single-use items from your EV, but wait for the adventure. After all, an adventure set in most places allow you to buy whatever you want. Granted, you take a risk, but not a very big one if you read blurbs carefull. Note that the first core special also offered special stuff for sale during the adventure and that costed x5 as well. |
| smerwin2906-12-06, 07:43 AM | Note that the first core special also offered special stuff for sale during the adventure and that costed x5 as well. Could you refresh my memory on that one? I led the writing of that project, and I edited it, and I am looking at it right now, and everything I see as for sale during the mod costs the normal price (healer's kits, special spell components, scrolls, etc.) That is the whole reason I made the statement in the first place, so any help is appreciated. |
| Madfox1106-13-06, 03:10 AM | Did it? Because than I must misremembering things which considering it was 1.5 years ago is not too surprising ;) |
| smerwin2906-13-06, 07:40 AM | Understood. I thought I was misremembering too, because in D&D time, a year and a half is a lot to remember. |
| Jay_Ibero_91106-19-06, 10:18 PM | Okay, I think I get it. So for example: A 7th level Artificer with Extraordinary Artisan couldn't have a 10 charge Wand of Scorching Ray (CL7), even though it would only cost him 5250 because the item's base cost of 10500 is above the level 7 gp limit of 9500. Would this be correct? |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-19-06, 11:20 PM | No wands of Sorching Ray, unfortunatly you can't have wands that aren't specifcally listed in a sourcebook. If that wasn't the case then every Artificer would be packing Wands of Orb Spells from Complete Arcane. |

If that wasn't the case then every Artificer would be packing Wands of Orb Spells from Complete Arcane. WHAT?!? So as far as this campaign is concerned, the craft feats only allow purchasing pre-existing items at a discount and not making scrolls/potions/wands of any spells you know up to the appropriate level? That seems silly... |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-20-06, 10:42 PM | It is for this reason that version 3.0 of the campaign standards list prices for Scrolls and Wands of the Repair family of spells. Prior to the release of that document any PC that had them were technically breaking the campaign rules. |
| Madfox1106-21-06, 04:48 AM | Actually, you can purchase wands, scrolls and potions not as such in the DMG or another source as long as you can actually craft the item. A wizard with scorching ray in his spellbook could buy the wand of scorching ray through his craft wand feat. Or at least, that is what SRM told me when I had a chat about it a couple of weeks ago. |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-21-06, 09:20 AM | So, if you speak with the guy in charge of the RPGA then you don't have to follow the rule in the Item creation feats section on page 6 of the Mark of Heroes Campaign Standards that states: "You may only craft items specifically listed in campaign sources." |
| Madfox1106-22-06, 04:01 AM | You do realize that the PHB is a campaign source, don't you? That specific line was the reason I asked about it in the first place. It is vague, something similar created the same questions in LG and it does not make much sense. I also got the impression he was going to change the crafting rules, but that had to do with another problem I came across during a play test of a MoH adventure. |
| Frobi-Wan Kenobi06-22-06, 09:21 AM | Yes, but where in the Player's Handbook is a wand of Scorching Ray? Don't get me wrong, I wish my PC could craft things like a Wand of Orb of Force with CL 8th (Wand Mastery would max it out for me) but I can't because the rules aren't written that way. Back during the beginning of the campaign I asked a lot of questions regarding this issue and was told that specifically listed meant appearing on a table with a price than it isn't legal. So, if you can somehow convince those in control of this campaign to change this rule I, and I believe many of our fellow players, would say thanks; however, I don't think I'll hold my breath. |
