Hello all:

Can you put a '1st level only' feat on your expansion list, then retool your character to use that feat? For example, in a MoH game, could you put Darkwood Body from Races of Eberron on your expansion list upon reaching 2nd level, then retool your Warforged to use the feat?

Thanks!

Good question.

But I think It's okay, you can do it. The only things you can't change are Class, Race, Creation Card and Expansion list. The feats are free to change between sessions.

The only restriction is that you can't take more 1st level feats than you have feats at first level but that's no secret !! ;)

Thank you, CG for your answer. That's what I would have thought as well.

I emailed the question to Wizards and below is their response...

Thank you for contacting us.
You certainly cannot do this. You would need a Creation card to gain access to the feat at that level. If no such Creation card exists, then the feat is considered to be unavailable.

Perhaps this should be added to the Campaign Standards documents, no?

Thanks anyway for sharing the info !!

Guys, this answer isn't for the Mark of Heroes Campaign. This is from Wizards customer service and they really aren't the authority for the RPGA. If this answer came from Dispel Confusion then it would be an official campaign guideline.

I've sent the question on to Dispel Confusion, but have not received a response yet....

i would say you can't do this only b/c in the guidelines it says you can't retool your character to fit what was in the past. plus it has to not be restricted.

Where in the guidelines does it say this? From what I've read, you can retool ANYTHING except your Creation Card, your Race, and your class levels (provided you still qualify for any PrC, feat, etc. you are listing).

plus it has to not be restricted.

Hence the problem (waiting until second level so you can UNLOCK the feat). I see nowhere in the guidelines that give an answer to this question explictly.

Doesn't sound like you could do it without a creation card that allows the Darkwood Body feat. The primary issue is that you wouldn't have it unlocked at first level... only after you've reached second. And retooling your feats STILL doesn't give it to you at first level, only after 2nd, since that's when it would be unlocked.

It's like unlocking the Porsche with your current job.
You can't go back to your previous job and get the Porsche before you take the current one.

You can't go back to your previous job and get the Porsche before you take the current one.

However, according to the rules, and using your simile, you COULD leave your current job as a baker, become a lion tamer, then go back in time and switch around your knowledge, aptitudes, training, and even your physical attributes to suit that new job.

It does no good to compare this to Real Life TM. We need a straight answer from the MoH devs. I'm HOPING there'll be a new Dispel Confusion soon, or a revision to the Campaign Standards, now that we've had a level bump.

basically you have to find a creation card or expansion card that allows you to take this at 1st level. if its not out there you can't take it and retool the character to have it.
