06-09-05, 02:12 AM The craft skill is boosting your Equipment Value (EV) by 10 gp for each rank. Is it the only thing it can do in RPGA play ?

What I mean is:

If I have ranks in Craft(Bowmaking), can I buy a Bow for a third of the normal cost ? Or is the 10gp per rank already a way of dealing with that ?

Can someone get me an official answer on that, please. Tim ?

If the campaign rules do not specifically say that you can use the Craft skill to purchase an item at a reduced cost, then you can not do it.

I believe the increased EV per rank is the only benefit (unless something is written in a mod or specifically stated in the campaign sourcebook) of taking ranks in Craft skills.

See later message regarding starting gold and coin on hand being modified by ranks in certain skills.

This is easily confusing. CyberGaston's question was regarding starting gold. See page 5 of the CS under Craft and Profession skills:

Futhermore, they grant a 10 gp x the character's ranks in bonus gold pieces for starting gold.

Craft, Profession, and Perform skills also increase Coin on Hand as described by jeffpicard. See page 6 of the CS under Coin on Hand:

Base CoH = Character level times 2 + Charisma modifier + number of ranks in Craft, Profession, and Perform skills + 10 for each item creation feat.

And for my initial question, I'll go with my gut feeling and your answer on that one kauchakwa. I guess the craft skill only gives additionnal gold on Equipment Value (EV) AND Coin on Hand (CoH) but no cut in the cost of items you can make.
