-Take a mind flayer wizard of level 20
-Start with an Intelligence of 26. Increase this to 31 through leveling up.
-Take the feat Maximize Spell.
-Make sure that the mind flayer has prepared a maximized fox's cunning, a polymorph other spell, a wish spell, and owns a headband of intellect (+6), tome of clear thought (+5), a scarlet/blue sphere ioun stone (+2 Int) and an orange prism ioun stone (+1 caster level).

The mind flayer casts fox's cunning on himself after reading the tome of clear thought, increasing his Intelligence to 42. Using the headband of intellect, this is a 47 (+18).

Along with a caster level of 21, the DC of the spell polymorph is 49 (+21 caster level +18 Int), impossible for the tarrasque to avoid.

Cast polymorph other (Will save DC 49) on the tarrasque (you will easily defeat the SR 32), turning the tarrasque into a human. Then suck the brains out of the human-tarrasque to stop the squirming. Stab the body with your dagger as much as you want. Wish the tarrasque permanently dead and you are done.

Fox's cunning doesn't stack with a headband of intellect

I think you're calculating DCs wrong. It's 10 + spell level + ability modifier. So the DC would be 32 (if I got the spell of polymorph right)

Cast polymorph other (Will save DC 49) on the tarrasque (you will easily defeat the SR 32), turning the tarrasque into a human. Then suck the brains out of the human-tarrasque to stop the squirming. This could work, if you're willing to prepare a whole ton of polymorphs. You could also use the metamagic feat Heighten Spell.

Lol! I was *just* gonna post a Tarrasque thread here tonight!

Questions:

Can a Solar take out the Tarrasque with an arrow of slaying made specially for it? I don't have the 3.5 MM, but according to the book, a solar can produce *any* arrow of slaying.

Or how about a maxed out epic level wizard simply casting two wish spells- one for wishing it to -30 Hp & the other to keep it dead.

Would those work?

In 3.5 I believe you only have to get it down to -10 hp, instead of -30.

The wish might work if the DM is a fool, but it shouldn't work normally.

IMC, either a Wish or a Deity is needed to take out the big Tarrasque.

However, the party delt with one once. And.. erm.. it destroyed Union.

.. overall a fun day in Sigil!

Don't. Just set out several dozen barrels of ale filled with poisons capable of sending a creature into a natural and restful sleep, wait until the thing gets a 1 on its fortitude save, relocate any surrounding towns, teleport it to some deep cave and leave the poor thing alone! It's not as if its evil or anything, and it's the last of its kind, a severly endangered species, especially with the huge amounts of people forming entire topics on how best to kill it.

Poor tarresque. :(

That has to be the best post on one of these Tarrasque threads i've ever seen.

Someone needs to create a nice little plane for the Tarrasque to play in, with commoners growing on vines for the Tarrasque to munch on whenever she feels the need.

Or you could just be smart and have a ranger (with magical beasts as his primary favored enemy) come after it after having his +1 magic beast bane bow pumped by greater magic weapon and acquiring flight somehow.

The tarrasque won't be able to really do much but run. If you have another party member (say a rogue or a cleric) armed with a similar weapon and standing on opposites sides (not necessarily flanking, just so that one member will be able to get their full-attack on while the other swings around) the tarrasque is dead meat, even if it spends all of its time running away.

Why bother killing it?

Buy a big gem, cast Trap the Soul on it, inscribe a trigger word and the
word "Tarrasque" on it, tape the gem to nice fat cow, smear blood on the
cow, cast hold monster on the cow and RUN!

Soon as the Tarrasque accepts the gem (by eating the cow), you have a gem
with a trapped Tarrasque inside. No spell resistance, no saving throw.

Now give the gem to your favorite BBEG, and convienantly cast dispel magic.

Muhahaha.

Tether a goat out in the middle of an open field. When the big lizard rushes up to grab the goat, cast a gate spell directly in front of it. Put the other end of the gate in the Lower Plane of your choice.

Having an angry, nearly unkillable giant reptial pop up in the middle of the battle might make things just a little more interesting for the Blood War.:hoppingma

Let a Golden Great Wrym handle it. Or anything that can fly and does high damage then wish it dead.

Also were does the Tarrasque regenerate from? If is was incinerated because say some good Sorcerer sent it to the Nine Hells and it was put in a giant pit of hellfire, the thing would burn to ashes so then would one ash rengenerate or what???

1. Dig a very large hole. The hole must be at least 80 feet deep and 50 feet wide.

2. Fill the bottom 30 feet of the hole with dry timber, (pine, maple, etc)... You can just use downed trees, as long as they are no longer green.

3. Cast a fireball or two into the hole to burn up the trees. After a few days, you should have about 5 feet of ashes at the bottom of a huge hole.

4. Place several thousand peas around the edge of the hole, you can use winter peas, or sweet peas... just about any kind will work

5. Place several hundred casks of ale near the hole... take the lids off so that the Tarresque knows where the ale is.

6. Hide nearby using your elven cloak. You should also have silent spell "Expiditious Retreat" memorized.

7. The tarresque should eventually start drinking the ale. This is when you cast your Expiditious retreat.

8. When the tarresque stops to take a pea, run up and kick him in the ash hole.

7. Obridum (strong hold builders guide) augment object (stronghold builders guide), Acid, Wish spell/scroll/wand/1 use item

Make a giant tub of acid, somehow get the tarrasque into it (illusions help), make the tub out of augmented obridium (hardness is 60 because of the augment object spell), put lid on it, laugh as the tarrasque takes 10d6 damage a turn, augment alchemy can come in handy here as well

8. Mirror of Opposition (or two, just in case), Wish

9. Will save based death spell, and all the usual save DC and SR beating boosting twinks, Wish

10. anything incorporeal, wish

11. (joke) if you go by CR, a titan can do it...right...

11. (real) IRL you need the Ultimate Games Designer's Companion, and the War book, first, change the terrain around you to give the tarrasque as big of a movement penelty as you can, transmute rock to mud and move earth work, get a cannon, enlarge the cannon to Colossial VI, make it a Quad weapon, assuming a Cannon is Large (long) , youve gone up 8 steps, and a heavy cannon already does 12d10 damage, it takes a full turn to aim and load one (probably a typo, its most likely supposed to be 4 full rounds, like the medium and light cannon), and i think the hammer and helm book of dwarves has even more enhancements for siege weapons (not sure, someone else told me about it), lets just say a 25 anything DR wont do much, for added fun, add the slow spell to the tarrasque and mass haste your crews.

12. a level 233 barbarian can negate all the damage it can do, even on a critical hit with the bite attack

13. Ability damage, especialy Intellegence renders it helpless

One person in an earlier topic suggested giving a Barb20 a Ring of Acid Resistance and letting big T swallow him.

Then just beating on the thing from the inside.

Me? I think there's a perfectly nonviolent solution. (this is also ripped but I like it)
1) Be a Wizard who knows Rary's Telepathic Bond.
2) Get a Headband of Intellect +6 and a Ring of Sustenance.
3) Slip them onto the Tarrasque whilst it sleeps.
4) When the Tarrasque wakes up and finds itself non-hungry, cast Rary's Telepathic Bond and explain what happened.

Have a fighter with Karmic Strike, a Ring of Freedom of Movement, a Retributive Amulet, and a +5 Wrathful Healing Magical Beast Bane weapon go toe to toe with it.

Coax it into running off a cliff, falling to its death, and having it impaled on something really sharp. Then, get a guy on a dragon to fly over it and drop half a million flasks of alchemist's fire all over the corpse. Do the same with vials of acid, have the dragon breathe all over it, chop off its head, break it up into little pieces, and cast Ruin on the pieces to disintegrate them. Collect the dust in a really big sack and cast Nailed to the Sky on it. Viola.

You people are making it hard...

Have a wizard with fly, wish, and circle of teleportation.

Fly up a few hundred feet, so you know what it looks like, and then cast circle of teleportation(permanent would be good, just in case) to teleport it to 300 feet above the circle. Then, set some kind of bait, like a goat corpse, whatever. Tarresque runs, steps in circle, falls, gets damage, falls again, and again, and again, and again, and again, etc. When he reaches -10, wish him away.

Easy, see?
Keebler

02-07-04, 11:38 PM
Here's a simple one (kind of):
Make a modified Nailed to the Sky that has +(large amount) to the save and +(large amount) to the SR check.
Cast said spell on Tarrasque.
Wish it dead when it suffocates/reenters.
Watch for falling Tarrasque parts for the rest of the campaign.

Y'know, i was recently looking over MotW, and it has some pretty damn broken spells in it.

Take you're average druid. Give him the Extended and Persistant Metamagic feats. Have him cast a Persistant Miasma on the Tarrasque. If the Tarrasque chooses to just "cough and spit", cast a Persistant Creeping Cold. For the first, say, 10 rounds, there probably won't be any damage that the Tarrasque couldn't heal. I have no doubt, however, that the cumulative dice (each round, the 1d6 increased by 1 (there is no limit to the increase!), will eventually freeze the Tarrasque in his tracks. Imagine, after say 40 rounds, taking 40d6 damage per round, then 41d6 the next, then 42d6 the next... These will all be halved (low fortitude save for half damage), but that is still going to hurt. 24 hours, which is 14400 rounds, is going to kill that Tarrasque dead. All the Druid needs in access to a ring of invisibility and a ring of three wishes.

Lure the Tarrasque to a big lake that contains a planar vortex to the Elemental Plane of Water. I'm sure the big guy has some way to survive being submerged in an infinite ocean, but who cares? He's certainly not smart enough to find a way home.

Or you could open up your MM and put a big X in black magic marker over Mr. T.

By the way, unless those spells have fixed ranges, they can't be made persistent.

All the splatbooks have broken spells, feats and prestige classes. It saddens me that they were ever printed. It would have simply been better if they did not include any new game mechanics in them, rather clever suggestions for using existing feats, spells, equipment and skills to acheive the "flavor" (which usually translates into powergaming) that so many people were complaining was lacking in the core rules.
Ogre4Hire

02-10-04, 06:15 PM
Well, since we've already got the Complete Warrior with Complete Divine and Complete Arcane on the way, the DM simply has to say that he doesn't allow any of the old splatbooks.
Korhal_IV

02-10-04, 06:33 PM
I was the one with the barb and the ring of acid resistance - it actually does work. You're hitting him with something like 16d6+magic+str damage per round, while he's dealing 2d8-5 crushing damage to you (ring of acid resistance totally negates acid damage). Remember: Just because you *can* exit the beast, doesn't mean you should!

Alternatively, get a fighter with a powerful magic longbow boots of flying. Big T has no ranged at all. Enough plinking, and he's down for the count. Then the wizard can step in and cast Wish.

I think killing the tarrasque with fire is impossible, since it's immune to fire. I really like the idea of just dominating it, though, or maybe mass charm it from hiding.

The Complete Warrior has the frenzied berserker... it's not that well-balanced. Banning 3.0 splatbooks alleviate but does not solve the problem.

Yes, but the Frenzied Berserker is not identical in both books. Remember, a DM always has the final word, and if he doesn't like a Feat/Spell/PrC he can simply choose to ban it from his game. It's that simple.

Incidentally, here are some anti Berserker tactics: Transmute Rock to Mud, Soften Earth and STone, Slow, Web, and Entangle can be used to slow him down A Lot. Feather him while he's stuck. Getting airborn is also good for this. Use Calm Emotions to prematurerly end the frenzy, causing fatigue for the rest of the fight. Sunder his weapon to lower his damage ability (and also cause him to provoke repeated AoOs as he is forced to make Unarmed STrikes.) Ray of Enfeeblement drops his strength down to close to its original level. There are a large number of other spells and tactics that can be used quite effectively to offset a Frenzied Berserker's power.

In a paranoia game I played in there were these gaint cockroaches that were the size of a football field, and highly intelligent. These guys were literally indestructable- the entry for them in the book explicitly left out any sort of statistics, stating that a direct nuclear stike would not even phase the beasts.

It would be funny to see the tarrasque munch on an Earth-army (stomping tanks and what not)

Send Godzilla with a nuke after it.
Or have Link take care of him. With Link's luck there would be a pocket dimension inside of the Tarrasque with the Tarrasque's regenerative core as a boss.
Or turn the Tarrasque's hunger against him. Have a mage build crap golems from the Tarrasque's likely huge amount of guado.

Fun, but unlikely, I mean even if they can't kill it, just set up some machine guns in a circle round it, and it's stuck (it'll basically be kicked about inside of the circle for all eternity) or lure it into a hole, then pout molten titanium down it, problem solved (hmmm, could you do that in D&D, a little illusion and alevitate spell to lure it in, then get you're friendly dwarf clan to fill it with one of the crazy ultra hard fantasy metals like adamantium)

My party has to kill the tarrasque as a quest, and we were originally going to try to kill it with a swarm of stirges (1d4 con damage each), then wish it dead when it reached 0 con. Unfortunately, Big T is immune to ability damage.

The strategy we're going to end up using is sending me (a barbarian/frenzied beserker) into his stomach with a ring of acid invulnerablility. Since I have a cloak of etherealness, I don't even need to bother getting swallowed. I'll then hack him up from the inside, and our wizard will wait far away with a scroll of wish. The DR 15/epic along with his regeneration 40 is going to be tough, but with good rolls we could do it.

you could just use thrall, then command it to go to sleep and never wake up (can you do that with thrall?)

you could use thrall and command it to go into hiding, never come back, and never be seen by any-one/thing. That is as good as dead, right?

or you could pull out an illithid, and have the illithid use 4 tentacle attacks and WHAM! the tarrsque is without a brain, it dies (can it regenerate brains?)

The mind flayer-eat brains idea was already done on another thread. The flaws with it are: 1 a tarrasque can regenerate from any damage. 2 its grapple check is so much higher than squid face's. and finally 3 the brain of the tarrasque is larger than the mind flayer's entire body.

It would still be extremely funny to watch, though.

Q: What's the best (read safest ) way to kill the Tarrasque?
A: Get someone else to do it, of course.:D

In a campaign i was playing in we defeted Big-T at level 3. This is how we did it in 20 easy steps anyone can do exsecaly if they never tryed anything like it before:

1. We get the signal that Big-T is on his way to the city.
2. We Go get somthing to eat. (hunger rules)
3. He is only 4 miles from the city now we better hurry.
4. We take the steam powered elevator 4 levels up and get out.
5. We walk along to cat walk until we see Big metal things with doors on them.
6. We go in the dorrs and sit down.
7. A powerful hyrolic system lunches us at 1000 miles per hour at a 45* angle.
8. We fly throught the air for about a minute.

Rugraknot- Actually, I have already DnDized the StarGate. The standard version is the World Gate (continuous connection to only one world when undamaged, connection to random worlds if destination crystal is damaged, intermitant connection if stabilizer crystal is damaged). There's also the Gigagate, which works exactly like a StarGate, except only one of it exists and it doesn't need a gate on the other side.

To kill the Tarrasque just make some demon or devil think that it is plotting against them. Shouldn't be to hard.:smirk:

This is a little off topic but it seems the right place to ask it. I've always wondered what would happen if you managed to get hte tarrasque to swallow a decanter of endless water and then seal all its... orifices... shut with sovereign glue. 'Tis a question that has plagued me many a day and I would like to know what you all think of it.

I'd house rule that it drowns in about 4d6 hours.

So no-one else wants to add anything to the tarrasque-decanter debate eh? I was wondering if it would make the tarrasque swell up like a balloon personally. There's nowhere for the water to escape after all. It would probably rupture eventually though. Now that would be a horrible sight to see.

As for killing the tarrasque how well would energy drain work against it? Its not immune to having negative levels is it?

Raise an army of gnomes riding Giant space hamsters, when Big T is done eating, he'll get sick, then you gift wrap him and teleport him into Bahamut's Treasure Vault, cuz I'll be damned if he's going to be able to break out, take on 7 great gold wyrms and bahamut himself!

Make him listen to Linkin Park and lots of EMO. Seriously though, why would you want to bother it? It doesn't do anything. It just eats and lives. Just avoid the damn thing. There is no reason to confront it other than for bragging rights.........Hmmmm. On second thought, have giants and other fun things tie boulders to it and drop it in the deepest ocean around. Let it drown there. Don't wish it dead either, let it keep coming back so it's like a Godzilla movie.
