Just a few ways to make your players think twice before making small bone splinters of the latest group of undead cannonfodder.

1) Skeleton brigades covered with brown mold (for some reason I always run into spellcasters who think there is a fireball for EVERY Situation)
2) Regular Skeletons with vestigial limbs and bony bits attached to make them look more formidable.
3) Skeletons with Alchemist Fire flasks (the ones that burst into flame upon contact with air.) stored in their ribcages. (Break out the bludgeoning weapons I dare you.)
4) Skeleton (weighing about 50Ib if not less) standing on the 100Ib pressure plate that causes the whole hallway to drop into a pit (followed by the ceiling). Its funny just because something’s already standing there they assume it must be safe
5) Scribe Scroll on the ribs of a skeleton, have him follow you around after animated, snap off a rib in a pinch. :D
6) Fire trap on a skeletons jaw with the command to "Open your mouth when intruders approach within 5ft"(even have room for two more words)
7) Skeletal Industry (Factory Line style).
8)Skeleton Armor (Wear one, attacks those who come near you while you do what you do best, cast spells! Takes a high concentration check though)
9)Skeleton with a wand of wonder and magic mouth speaking the command word over and over and over and over. . .(Dont if that really translates from 2e but heck thought Id include it anyway)

Still, the main problem remains: One use of "turn undead", and all the skeletons are gone... :weep:

10. Put eternal torch, candles, or some other light source inside its skull, perhaps add on some special clothes, chains, or a magic mouth spell. People will see the glowing eyes and other fixings and mistake it for some more powerful undead.
11. As above, but give it special looking rings and a used-up wand. Use ventriloquism and people will believe they are confronting a lich.
12. Put a wig on it and take it to the prom. All the other high school guys will envy you, because thin=beautiful.
13. Cover it in rotting meat or leather to confuse opponents. Won't they be suprised when their swords barely harm the fast-moving "zombie".
14. Have them get into a crouching position and bury them in loose soil, such as dust or sand, with a deceptive layer of topsoil. The result is suprise attacks with a very cinematic touch.
15. Mobile coat rack
16. When you leave the house on halloween, have the skeleton lie limp, and possibly with a concealing black robe. Place next to the candy bowl with the sign saying "Only take one. Happy Halloween" so that people will take it for an elaborate decoration. Command it to attack, beat senseless, or just give a good scare to anybody who tries to take more than their share of candy. That'll teach those teenagers who think their soooo damn smart by stealing the whole bowl and depriving dozens of innocent little kids their halloween treats. I'd love to see those over-confident moronic trolls then. Serves em right.
17. Another halloween idea: disguise as decoration, but command your skeleton to retaliate against eggs and toilet paper with entrails and bags of human blood.
18. If you're really vindictive, do number 17, but animate the entrails as a rotten siggah (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=267232) and the blood bags as crimson clots (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=265729)

I'll think of more.

Have the skeleton wave a fan at you when you are hot.

Let the skeleton carry the lantern for the party.

Send the skeleton into the lake to retrieve golf balls.

Have the skeleton knock on someones door then hide in the bushes...tell it to attack only if discovered. Have it repeat this action everytime no one is outside.

Hide it in a kids closet. Have it come out and shake the kids bed when no adults are in the room. Just to mix it up. Program it to hide under the kids bed when the kid runs out of the room.

Send it out on dark nights in the city...tell it to hide in the alley and give wedgies to anyone who walks by.

Give it a top hat , cane and a Magic Mouth spell. Have it sing and dance.

Have it run into a funeral and hop in the coffin with the dead person...tell it to hold the lid closed from the inside so no one can open it.

Have it hide in the hole at the outhouse and pinch peoples butts.

Have it knock on peoples window at night, give them the finger, then run.

Send it on a daring panty raid on the elf queens chamber.

19. Use them as literal cannon fodder and blow them out of cannons.
20. Create a permanent programed illusion of yourself then command them to stand perfectly still in a room's alcoves then when the heros come they will attack the illusion instead of focusing on the real threat . . .
21. Give one sentience through a long lost ritual(you're a DM, you can do this type of thing) then surprise the Pit has.
22. Dress it up like a wizard!
23. Disguise one via magic item as an elven princess

I am actually going to be using this one in a campaign I am in pretty soon.

27) After clearing the flooded basement of the house you have just bought, bring in your own personal HazMat team, especially if one of the rooms has a strange black substance growing on its walls and another has rusty scalpels and surgical tools laying everywhere.
