| The Ethereal Wickerman04-02-04, 03:03 AM | I was reading Mr.Waesel's post about templates. Assume you can add any template to any creature, what would you make? (or indeed, anything you have made). Go on, show me your ideas, even if the combos are legal or illegal. Heres a few of mine... 1) Invisible Stalker + Umbral Dire Horse taurics I once had village haunted by some headless horse ghosts. But they were actually a highly specialized race of Elementals that pretended to be Ghosts. 2) Incarnate Rogue Eidolon Now that is one scary monster, the idea im getting reminds me of an arcane Silent Hill. I could imagine a tall, faceless bloke once bare visage has a reverse pentagram ecthed, bleeding on its surface. Its arms unnaturally long and instead of fingers is a set of large scissors. 3) Bone Creature Beholder I just like the idea of a skeletal Beholder, but the problem being that its eye attacks wont work anymore. But you'd get a cool looking creature, how can you go wrong with a giant, fanged skull!. :D 4) Sanctified Vrock I could imagine it being a cleric of Sathia, but then again Sathia doesn't grant domains. Ah well, where theres a will theres a way. :smirk: I'll be back with more soon... :behold: |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast04-02-04, 05:02 AM | 5) Skeleton Black Pudding. That will get your player's thinking! I can see this strange beast as being just a random jumble of cartilage and bone, with no obvious skeletal structure. |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-02-04, 05:21 AM | 6) Half-Black Dragon Geletinous Cube: There's no way you can mention fun templates without that bugger. ;) 7) Advanced Feral Fiendish Zombie Human: I like using these over conventional Zombies (after taking away the Zombie's slow movement traits). It amounts to a demonic "Dawn of the Dead"esque zombie. With all the natural attacks, Pounce is very nice. 8) Monsterous Beast Winged Elf: There's something about a winged elf that I like. Couple that with the Monsterous Beast to give it the Charm and Circle of Protection from Evil abilities, and you've got a rather angelic critter. Maybe give it celestial, just for the hell of it. 9) Multiheaded Beholder: It reminds me of that Pokemon that has the three heads all connected... Coughing or something along those lines. Set them facing different directions and now you have three antimagic cones and 30 potential eye rays. Can you feel the evil? |
| The Ethereal Wickerman04-02-04, 02:22 PM | 10) Titanic Feral Gibbering Mouther Now that would be scary, imagine a Castle-sized mass of sabre-tooth fangs and blood-shot eyes flailing around the country side. I might just use this idea. 11) Spellsticthed Corpse Monstrous Spider A large, semi-composed Spider covered with necromantic runes. Not sure why but I like this idea. 12) Anthropomorphic Fox + Blink Dog tauric Just imagine an orange fuured tauric with the body of a large Fox, and from neck up a gnome-like torso, arms and canine head. 13) Half-Illithid Tyrannosaurus An experiment for the ultimate Mind Flayer 'guard-dog'. Just imagine a gigantic, slimy, grey-skinned sauron with a large, fanged, lamprey-like maw. 14) Half-Fire Elemental Wood Golem Known as an 'Ember Golem'. Made out of a thick wood that continuously burns for hundreds of years without having to be replaced. |
| The Ethereal Wickerman04-03-04, 03:04 AM | 15) Half-Flesh Golem Corpse Julajimas A gigantic, rotting, sticthed-up Ape of epic proportions. Sometimes I scare myself with my creative genius... 16) Celestial Saint Paragon Titanic Kolyarut The ultimate Heavenly weapon. A colossal man-shaped robot called 'Constructuvi-Alexandris' or more commonly known as 'The Judge of the Sky'. 17) Spectral Shark Do you think a Spectral Shark could fly about on land, kinda like swimming through the air?. If so this beast is going straight into my campaign. 18) 2 Headed Anarchic Tall Mouther This foul beast has one rotting horse-like leg, one female human leg wearing slutty tights, a long pale fly-like leg and a mannequin leg that has profanities ecthed into its surface. It also has a brutishly muscular troll arm with a tatoo of crying skull on the shoulder, and a skeletal arm in which the thumb is missing. In admist this chaotic mass of limbs are two heads, one an albino Lion head with its eyes gouged out, the other a grinning arabian with his nose torn off. It is carrying a massive a small column as a club, it looks like it came from of temple of the deity Correllon Larethian, and it is wearing a necklace where a collection of dried fruits are attached. |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-03-04, 06:47 AM | 19) Half-Illithid Half-Red Dragon Lich Githyanki: You have to imagine - what sort of unholy union spawned this thing... well, seeing as it's a lich, it probably was a rather unholy union... 20) Paragon Epic-Pseudonatural Titanic Monsterous Warbeast Squirrel of Legend: A giant squirrel with nigh-godlike power (for a squirrel). Probably feasts on acorns the size of large houses... 21) Feral Titanic Anthropomorphic Dire Rat Tauric Titanic Warbeast Badger of Legend: A big, huge, mean rat-taur that likes to do the old "bag o' fighters" trick. |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.04-03-04, 07:02 AM | 17) Spectral Shark Do you think a Spectral Shark could fly about on land, kinda like swimming through the air?. If so this beast is going straight into my campaign. Of course. It can fly, and, being undead, breathing is no longer a concern of it. 22) Pseudonatural, shadow, gibbering mouther: The thing that should not be! 23) A half-red,half-blue,half-green,half-black,half-white, five-headed, animated object (chair). It would be called the tiamat chair, spawned from the blood of the god herself infused into a chair. |
| gino04-03-04, 10:45 AM | to R.M.G.C.L.F. : I would call it "the rainbow chair". 22) (Fiendish ?) Half-Troll Gnomes all the way ! (they would be small-sized Giants - ? - with a bonus to fight their own kind) 23) Half-Ling Hobbits (don't know what a Ling is...) :P |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-03-04, 11:13 AM | Originally posted by gino 23) Half-Ling Hobbits (don't know what a Ling is...) :P Sounds to me like an Oriental Dragon... 24) Were-Skeleton-Warbeast-Chicken Corpse Penguin: Zombified Penguin by day, Skeletal Chicken by night! Oh the humanity! |
| gino04-03-04, 11:28 AM | 25) Pseudonatural Feral Celestial (or is it Fiendish ?) Two-headed Donald Rumsfeld - the second head is GW Bush's. 26) Celestial Half-Fey Spellsitched Lich Winged Elf 27) I-don't-wan't-to-copy/paste-every-template-but-every-possible-one Kobold behold the mighty anklebiter of DOOM ! |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-03-04, 11:50 AM | 28) Celestial Fiendish Ghost Half-Celestial Half-Dragon Half-Fiend Lich Lycanthrope Skeleton Vampire Zombie Pennaggolan Aleax Saint Sanctified Greater-Mummy Bone Corpse Corrupted Captured-One Chimeric Death-Knight Half-Golem Monster-of-Legend Spellstitched Tauric Titanic Warbeast Half-Fey Half-Illithid Half-Troll Huecuva Swordwraith Ti-Khana Yellow-Musk-Zombie Bonesinger Ghostwalk-Ghost Monsterous-Vampire Mumia Tainted-One Broodguard Dracolich Draconic Ghostly-Dragon Skeletal-Dragon Vampiric-Dragon Zombie-Dragon Half-Elemental Shadow Element Axiomatic Anarchic Petitioner Feral Gelatinous Ghost Brute Incarnate-Construct Insectile Monstrous Multiheaded Mummified Reptilian Spectral Symbiotic Umbral Wight Winged Wraith Anthropomorphic Arachnoid Chameleon Faerzress-Infused Mineral-Warrior Zin-Carla Pseudonatural Demilich Paragon Epic-Pseudonatural Psionic Shade Flumph: Amazingly, it's still LG. Lousy pancakes... |
| The Ethereal Wickerman04-03-04, 02:24 PM | You are all mentally ill...;) But seriously though can we take this a little more seriously, I'd like some ideas for some cool monsters you could actually use. I think my players would send me to the happy house if I began throwing any Paragon Insectile 'Rainbow Chairs' of DOOM at my party... 29) Insectile Gloom Also known as the 'Accidinid', spreader of Sorrow and Misery (A.K.A Accidie, its name-sake). Looks like guant, shadowy humanoid with six arms and a fearsome set of mandibles. Its body is covered with a sleek, black fur. |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-03-04, 03:05 PM | *switches from cool-in-a-humorous-way mode to cool-in-a-cool-esque-way mode.* 30) Swordwraith Death Knight Spellstitched Ogre Magi: A large dark figure, covered in plate mail and weilding a huge runed greatsword. Between the gaps of the armor can be seen several glowing runes, and behind the eye holes of its helmet glow its eyes, like twin torches in its head. 31) Fiendish Titanic Wood Element Shambling Mound: This unearthly being seems to be a forest that decided to get up and wreck havoc. Gnarled trees line it's back, soil and roots cover it's front, and huge, twisted, root-like limbs emerge from its body. 32) Half-Stained Glass Golem Half-Celestial Saint Crystal Dragon: Appearing to be an incarnate figure from a cathedral wall, this dragon, composed of glass and crystal, shines with the radiance of all the gods, deities and saints depicted in holy cathedral windows; seemingly a beacon from the goodly gods. 33) Water Element Winged Wraith Nimblewright: Imbued with more of a watery spirit than normal, the resulting construct became seemingly alive, only to die and return as a ghostly thing, remaining an agile swordsconstruct even moreso after death. Those serious enough ;) |
| EvilPettingZoo04-03-04, 10:29 PM | 34) Blue half-dragon yuan-ti abomination vampire. That should be fun to spring on a party. |
| gino04-04-04, 05:37 AM | You are all mentally ill... :) Considering I'm a roleplaying nerd, I should take it as a compliment. :P Anyway I honestly thought it wa smeant to be a humourous thread : illegal combinations allowed, what were you expecting, truely ? :bored: But I repeat my previous suggestion (22) : Half-Troll Gnomes ! If that is not surprising, what is then ? Anyway I'd rather use templates to create original or colourful critters, not uber ones. 35) Half-Illithid medium or large Snakes(viper). 36) the ever-popular Fiendish Vampire (great wyrm) Red Dragon for munchkins everywhere (very uber, not original => very munbhkin...) I'll try to add some more, but somebody sould come up with a templated monster generator, then we vould have fun with die (er... polyhedrons of DOOM). |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-04-04, 09:41 AM | Originally posted by gino I'll try to add some more, but somebody sould come up with a templated monster generator, then we vould have fun with die (er... polyhedrons of DOOM). Open in Notepad... unless you've managed to make IE word-wrap .txt files... (http://members.aol.com/elzaban/templateroller.txt) There's a dice-rolling template making do-hickey for you... took forever to make ;). It should work pretty well for this. Granted, it's far from complete, so feel free to add to it. Now, time to put it to the test.... 37) Reptilian Githyanki: With some reptilian (perhaps dragon) blood flowing through them, these githyanki have adapted to specifically invade arid and hot worlds, with their scaled hides and cold blood. 38) Ghost (Ghostwalk) Lich Mumia Mummy Lord: This powerful Eldritch undead passed through the Veil of Souls as a preserved mummy, but it's soul, refusing to depart, returned as an incorporeal spirit, covered in ornate jewelry and linen wrappings. It continues it's magical research beyond death's death, receiving evil clerical magic as well as studying the magic of dark secrets. 39) Ti-Khana Captured One (Guttersnipe) Gelatinous Vampiric Ixitxachitl: This oddly reptilian looking ray is made of a translucent goo, which constantly trails into the water behind it. It is covered (and filled), with aquatic pollutants and garbage, which it uses to poison victims as it drains their blood. 40) Half-Fey Corpse Crypt Warden: This positive-energy filled corpse guards the tomb of a great seelie king, warding it from those who would see it desecrated and the champion king unhonored. The nymphs and dryds in the surrounding woods respect the warden, knowing that it keeps their lord's tomb safe. 41) Warbeast Plant Element Ghost Brute Raven: This ghostly bird is infused with the energy of the trees it once called home in life. Saddled and harnesed, it is employed as aerial protection of the forests by the ghosts of long-passed pixies and grigs. It's actually pretty fun... interesting to try coming up with a story and description behind these buggers. |
| Dartanel04-04-04, 02:28 PM | 42) Fine water elemental swarm. It's raining, it's pouring, the old druid's got a suprise for you. :D 43) Anarchic Crypt Warder. Just because it's deathless doesn't mean it HAS to be good, does it? |
| Mithral Icesilver04-04-04, 02:59 PM | How about: 44) see sig. 45) Dire Were-Spinosaurus Tauric Orc/Giant Centipede: The scary thing is, if you apply them in that order, with 3.5 rules, they actually WORK! I think. |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-04-04, 03:32 PM | Originally posted by Dartanel 43) Anarchic Crypt Warder. Just because it's deathless doesn't mean it HAS to be good, does it? Anarchic isn't going to affect that, because it just makes it chaotic. Anyway, more fun with dice... 47) Lich Skeleton Half-Fire Elemental Half-Water Elemental Couatl: This undead creature appears to be a large skeletal serpent. Atop its head and along its back run magically runed plates, and emerging from its "shoulders" are a pair of wings. One wing is made of fire, with sparks and embers falling to the ground from it; the other is made of semi-frozen water, dripping its frigid liquid off the tips of it. 48) Zin-Carla Skeletal Dragon Umbral Deep Dragon: Reanimated by high preistesses of Lolth, this former Deep Dragon now appears as a shadowy skeleton, an eerily black light shining from its phantasmal bones. Able to walk through rock due to its incorpreal nature, it is sent out into the Underdark in search of those that have wronged the drow - everything living beneath and above the surface. 49) Symbiotic Small Monsterous Scorpion Shadow Chameleon Fiendish Choker: This demonic choker is derived from the stuff of unholy shadow, perfectly changing it's color so that it appears as merely a faint transparent outline. Fused with his head is an equally camaflaged scorpion, receiving nurishment from the choker while using its stinger to slay new victims. 50) Were-Owl Half-Illithid Celestial Half-Celestial Giant Owl: By night, this creature appears as nothing but a pure white owl, but when the sun breaks, its true nature is shown. It grows to giant size, with large golden wings and long silver plumage on its back. Opening its mouth however, four rasping tongue-like tentacles emerge, searching to devour the brains of evil creatures that might enter the holy wildlands. |
| The Ethereal Wickerman04-05-04, 02:45 AM | Bravo Elzaban, i'm really enjoying these ideas of yours...:D 51) Titanic Corpse Jarilith Symbiont Large Babau This terrifying Demon looks like a gigantic, hairless, rotting Lion and attached to its face and guant, pale-skinned man with an unnaturally wide grin and a small pair of horns. The only feature on the Lions face is it's wide, shark-like mouth and a pair of massive minotaur-like horns on its temples. |
| Elzaban the Ethereal04-05-04, 05:18 AM | 52) Feral Were-Giant-Octopus Fire Element Chaos Beast: While seeming like an innocent octopus during a full moon, this creature appears as a ferocious flaming beast of chaos and pandemonium at all other times. Huge spines protrude from its tentacles, and it's razored burning mouth hungers to immolate and devour your body. 53) Insectile Reptilian Were-Deinonychus Bonesinger Troglodyte: This skeletal troglodyte has bits of scaly skin drooping off it, and insectile chitine in patches along its limbs. A ghostly melody emanates from within, warding off the living until the moon arises, when it returns to life to feed upon its foes. 54) Monsterous Multiheaded Draconic Half-Red Dragon Maug: These creatures look like statues carved in the likeness of humanoid dragons. They have three heads, their bodies, limbs, heads and wings are formed of bloodstone, and they wear sparse plate covered in the hide of red dragons. Using their massive strength, enhanced combat maneuvers and their impressive firebreath, they act as a defense line between Tiamat and the rest of Baator. 55) Corrupted Half-Fiend Fiendish Half-Air Elemental Mummified Harpy: This horrid bird-like humanoid is seems to be made of pollutant smog, blood-soaked cloths covering it and giving it form. A pair of un-covered wings sprout from its back, and its teeth, clearly visable, drip with blood, bits of flesh caught between them. |
