| Ace the Dead07-23-05, 08:31 PM | Adding templates to dire rats that add a blanket +1 CR. Should I treat the creature as CR 1, CR 1.3333..., (worth 400 XP for lvl 1 PCs) or 2. If this has been discussed before, you could just point me in the right direction. Thanks, Ace the Dead. |

| fawr07-24-05, 02:12 AM | Raymond_Luxury_Yacht is right, but it helps to think of it this way. When Wizards talk about CR 1/2 what they mean is that two of them make a challenge for a CR 1 party. In my books that makes them a "CR -1" creature. The reason for this is that if you double the number of creatures you add two to the EL for the battle. Applying this rule gives me the following table wizards me 1/2 -1 1/3 -2 1/4 -3 1/6 -4 If you use my CR then working out the challenge that a +1 CR creature has is easy, and in your case you get 1/2. You can verify that this makes sense because if you have 3 CR 1/3 creatures then you have a EL 1 battle. But 3 CR 1/3 + 1 creatures gives you a EL 1+1=2 battle. |
