1. The Lesser Varrangoin has a breath weapon of varying energy types, but it doesn't say how often the creature can use it. I find it hard to believe it would be "at will", not even dragons can do that. Any idea what it's supposed to be?

2. The Dark Creeper and Dark Stalker have a cool concealment ability, but the description leaves a lot of questions. How many times a day can they use it? How long does it last? Can they fight while concealed by their cloaks? If so, why wouldn't they just be concealed all the time?

Is there an FF FAQ you can look at to see if the info you want is already available? I'll look.......nope, there's no FF FAQ. Oh well. It's not in the Update Booklet, so you'll have to make house rules for them yourself.

1. Why not go with "every 1d4 rounds". That seems to be the case with most breath weapons.

2. The dark ones are pretty weird, as far as stats go. I'm especially confused by the LAs. But anyway, the concealment is usable 3/day, and I assume lasts as long as the dark ones stay in the shadows. I would treat this concealment just like any other concealment when it comes to atacking. And, dark ones fight from conceal at all possible times anyway, so it's not a big deal.

I hope that helps.

1. Once a round as a standard action. It's a CR 6. 3d6 with a Reflex for half is kids play for 6th level characters. If you want the lesser varrangoin to actually be worth a CR 6, it NEEDS to be able to pull of this attack every round.

2. 3 times a day for sure, but I am not sure how long it would last. The description does not specify. Personally, I would change it to be "always on" just to make the dark ones worth their CR. CR 3 with only 5 hp needs have some heavy defense.

Yeah, good points.

I noticed in a few places in the FF where the update booklet really was needed, other than the DR and constructs. Some of the monsters just didn't seem right. But, I guess that's why we can house rule.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll probably have the varrangoins do flyby attacks for several rounds, stinging and waiting for the poison to hit, then start breathing all over the place. It will drive my non-flying melee-oriented PCs crazy. :D

Seems to me that FF needed another round of cleanup before it got released, but if the books were perfect we wouldn't need message boards, and how else would we waste time at work?
