My brother found something interesting and I wonder if it would really work. First, have a human sorceror (lvl 5) become a vampire, then have them take the Dragon Disciple PrC up to level 10 to become half-dragon, then take 8 levels of sorceror so he can make a phylactery and become a dracolich.

He should be able to enter DD because you just need to be a non-dragon, then DD makes you become a dragon (getting rid of undead) so you can take dracolich. Is all of this right?

Yeah, it'd work.

In fact, I'd say you wouldn't even need the Dragon Disciple levels. I don't see any reason why a vampire couldn't put his soul in a phylactery. And yes, I know it contradicts RAW.

I think in Savage species it has a sort of pyramid of types that you can move between while transforming. You could move from a fey to a dragon, or dragon to undead, but you can't go back down the pyramid. So According to SS, you couldn't be an undead then become a dragon, your undead template is too powerful a template to be overcome. p143, SS "Contruct, Outsider, Undead: These three types reside at the top of the pyramid. Once a creature becomes an undead or a construct through the application of a template, it cannot be something else. Once a creature stops being a native of the Material Plane, it become an outsider and stays one."
