| OverzealousMephit03-21-05, 08:52 PM | Hello guys, I guess you could say I am new to these boards but not to DnD. Out of all the monsters in DnD my favourites would have to be the mephits, and out of all the mephits the smoke variety used to be my favourite. So when I looked through the Monster Manual and couldn't find it, I was a bit shocked. Anyways, I converted it from 2e to 3.5e for one of the games I was running and really liked it. It isn't unique, not by a long shot. It's basically a 'normal' mephit with the same abilities of its 2e counterpart, but anyone who remembers the mephit should see where I am coming from. I intend on converting other monsters for my upcoming campaign so maybe I'll post them here later. Smoke Mephit Small Outsider (Air, Extraplanar) Hit Dice: 3d6 + 6 Initiative: +3 Speed: 30ft, fly 50ft (average) Armor Class: 17 (+1 size, +3 Dex, +3 Natural), touch 14, flat-footed 14 Base Attack/Grapple: +3/-1 Attack: Claw +7 melee (1d3) Full Attack: 2 claws +7 melee (1d3) Space/Reack: 5ft/5ft Special Attacks: Breath weapon, spell-like abilities, summon mephit Special Qualities: Damage reduction 5/magic, darkvision 60ft, fast healing 2 Saves: Fort +4, Ref +6, Will +2 Abilities: Str 10, Dex 17, Con 13, Int 6, Wis 8, Chr 15 Skills: Bluff +8, Escape Artist +9, Hide +13, Diplomacy +4, Disguise +2(+4 acting), Intimidate +4, Listen +5, Move Silently +9, Spot +5, Use Rope +3(+5 with bindings) Feats: Toughness, Weapon Finesse Environment: Elemental Plane of Air Organization: Solitary (1), gang (2-4 mephits of mixed types), or mob (5-12 mephits of mixed types) Challenge Rating: 3 Treasure: Standard Alignment: Usually neutral Advancement: 4-6 HD(Small); 7-9 HD(Medium) Level Adjustment: +3 (cohort) This winged creature looks like a miniature human surrounded by a shroud of black smoke. Smoke mephits come from the Elemental Plane of Air. Smoke mephits are lazy creatures that would much rather lounge around all day, smoking pipe weed and telling jokes than do anything even remotely productive. They are typically 4 feet tall and usually weigh around 50 pounds. Combat Breath Weapon (Su): 10 foot cone of smoke and debris, damage 1d4, Reflex DC 13 half. Living creatures that fail their saves are tormented by irritated eyes and difficulty breathing. This effect imposes a -4 penalty to AC and a -2 penalty on attack rolls for 3 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based and includes a +1 racial bonus. Spell-Like Abilities: Once per hour, a smoke mephit can hurl a sooty blob that functions like Blindness/Deafness without the option of inflicting deafness (fort DC 14, caster level 3rd). Once per day a smoke mephit can use Invisibility (Caster level 3rd). The save DC is charisma based. Fast Healing (Ex): A smoke mephit heals only if exposed to another source of smoke, be it from a fire, another mephit or magic. I suppose some feedback, especially someone who is familiar with the creature would be nice :) |
| Seraph of Babel03-22-05, 08:55 AM | If you are interested, the unconverted monsters from planescape (including mephits) have been unofficially converted by some of us here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=307692). |
