11-11-04, 10:58 PM This has probably been asked to death, so please forgive me. I haven't played since 2nd ed, and am just starting 3.5. I know alot of creatures have been converted over, but alot haven't. Is there a rule for coverting 2nd ed creatures to 3.5 stats?
Like, if a monster had a -5 AC, & a Thac0 of 5, what's the conversion?

11-11-04, 11:08 PM Hmm... somewhere there was a conversion guide from 2e to 3e here on the WotC site, but I don't recall where exactly it was. 3 to 3.5 isn't too hard to do after that either. Of course I'm still using 3 and not 3.5, so meh. ;)

There really is no straight up conversion method for this sort of thing as 2e didn't have feats or skill points nor did creatures have fully written out stat-blocks. You just have to do the best and hope to capture the spirit of the original monster as best as you can.

That said, back before the MM 3.0 book came out, I did on the fly conversions using my old 2e MM. A Thac0 of 5 roughly translated into a +15 attack bonus. An AC of -5 translated into an AC of 25. This isn't a very accurate method, BUT if you aren't concerned with complete accuracy, then this would work fine. If you use this method, creatures with SLA's will have some problems as some spells have been renamed or dropped from the Core rules altogther.

Finally, check out the
Creature Catalogue (http://www.enworld.org/cc/index.php) for LOTS of old critters updated to 3.0/3.5.
