Man I wish I still had my 2e monster manual and fiend folio. The only two I can remember is That giant island turtle thing whosename began with a Z, and that cool shadow thing that also had a spot on the D&D cartoon. of course it wasa lot more weasily on the show than I think the monster should have been, but I liked it none the less.

Tasked Genies

The first would be the zaratan, which is in the Arms and Equipment Guide; the second is the shadow demon and is, to my knowledge, not in any official WotC book.

The EN World message boards has a thead about converting 2e monsters (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=69690); some of these wind up in new Dragon issues, others in WotC books.

Feydragon? Are you talking about the faerie dragon in Draconomicon? The vaporighu is in Monster Manual II, and the asura is in Book of Exalted Deeds. One psionic lich is in the psionics forums, the other is in Malhavoc Press' Hyperconscious by Bruce Cordell.

Another good place on Enworld is the Creature Catalog (http://www.enworld.org/cc/) site. There's a current list of converted creatures here (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/index.php).

The quickling was in 3.0 book Tome of Horrors by Necromancer Games, it's due to updated to 3.5 but AFAIK only as a pdf.

the second is the shadow demon and is, to my knowledge, not in any official WotC book.

The Shadow Demon is on pg. 173 of the Book of Vile Darkness.

A different Kind of Shadow Demon was also found in Ravenloft and that was also updated in the S&S Ravenloft Denizens of Darkness/Dread.

I didn't have the time to check through that revised list that Gazza posted, but a 2e monster that I would have liked to see (but still havn't, even in the Draconomicon) was the Steel Dragon.

Hell, there's alot of dragons that need to be translated.

Mercury Dragon and Yellow Dragon are amoung those as well. I seem to recall reading about a Brown Dragon, but I'm not quite sure if I have the name right.

The Steel Dragon was up on the D&D website some time ago. Observe here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mm/20040328a

My vote would go for the xixchil - there's something about thri-kreen mad scientists obsessed with bodily modification that just twinkles my toes.

Of course, if they mangle it the way they did the 'standard' thri-kreen (which is derived from the Dark Sun version, which was NOT the original thri-kreen), the xixchil would have all kind of absurd abilities tacked on just to vindicate a LA +3 or other such nonsense.

I'd actually like to see Modrons brought into an official product again.

They were updated to 3e as a web enhancement for Manual of the Planes and now to 3.5 on Planewalker at...
http://www.planewalker.com/entry.php?intEntryID=10856

I just wanna see them in an official product again, cuz Modrons are sweet.

Flumph for 3.x (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/aberration/flumph.htm)

This is a pretty good Flumph but it is not official. The Flumph was officailly redone in an adventure called "Box of Flumph" in Dungeon #118. We may actually see it in the new MM4.

I'd like to see Modrons back too, but they're 1e monsters and so are a lot of the previously mentioned ones...

My list would include:
Angel, Agathinon
Angel, Light
Chososion (Why?! Just why, did the Ravid make it to 3.x but not the much cooler Chososion from that same book?)
Dabus
Demon, Bulezau Tanar'ri
Dohwar
Eladrin, Noviere
Eladrin, Shiere (Why weren't all remaining Eladrin in the BoED? Even though I like the Shiradi too.)
K'r'r'r (Am I spelling it with enough r's)
Reigar and all related creatures (because they're sooo cheesy...)
Rilmani, Abiorach
Rilmani, Argenach
Rilmani, Plumach
Silt Horrors
Yugoloth, Dhergoloth
Yugoloth, Hydroloth
Lord Doombringer

11-16-05, 08:01 PM
Hmmmm...all of them! (Yeah, I know that that's an unrealistic want, but screw it!)
Dackad

11-16-05, 11:58 PM
Hmmmm.... a dreadfully long list I guess. Most of these have their origins in 1e, but oh well....

Algoid
Argos
Beholder, Observer
Demon, Bulezau
Demon, Kakkuu
Demon, Lycosidilith
Demon, Molydeus
Demon, Phisarazu
Demon, Raklupis
Demon, Spithriku
Dhour
Dire Corby
Dragon, Cloud
Dragon, Mercury
Dragon, Steel
Dragon, Yellow
Eater of Knowledge
Entrope
Eyewing
Foo Creature
Garmorm
Giant, Verbeeg
Golem, Bone
Golem, Gargoyle
Magnesium Spirit
Ogrillon
Ooze, Mustard
Quasi-Elementals, All
Quickling
Sandling
Scarecrow
Skeleton Warrior
Spider, Hook
Tentamort
Troll, Two-Headed
Troll, Spirit
Troll, Spectral
Vacuous
Vampiric Mist
Wolf, Dread
Wolf, Vampiric
Yugoloth, Dergholoth
Yugoloth, Guardian
Yugoloth, Hydroloth
Zombie Lord

Yeah, some of these are available in the Creature Catalogue (and the Tome of Horrors, which I own) and others are available on the WotC site, but I'd just like to see them in a WotC book.

Some of the creatures that were mentionned have already been updated in official books...

Faerie Dragon: Draconomicon
Troll, Two-headed: Unapproachable East (Forgotten Realms)

Here are those I'd like to see updated:

Killmoulis
Korred
Leprechaun
Verbeeg (half-giant)
Arcanobion
Obliviax
Crab-Man
Guardian Demon

I think that we'll get many of them in the next monster book... Hopefully, we will...

Peace!
Kastas

I'll won't be satisfied until they've finished updating every last creature from the Planescape monstrous compendiums. I'm not too nostalgic for the 2e ruleset, but I did love that setting...
Gazza555

11-17-05, 05:07 AM
...
Angel, Agathinon
Angel, Light
...
Unless you only want offical versions, these two are currently being converted to 3.5 on this (http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58837) Enworld thread.

Brown dragons are in Monsters of Faerūn, and yellow dragons are in the soon to be released Dragon Compendium by Paizo.

If your favorite monster doesn't make it to Monster Manual 4, then ask Paizo to include it in the next Dragon Compendium; they will base the content on feedback from Vol. 1.

And thanks for the ref for the shadow demon.

Carrionete

The carrionette was updated to 3.5 in S&S Denizens of Dread

The Psilich template was introduced p.124-125 of S&S Ravenloft DMG (although it is supposed to be 3.5, I feel it's closer to 3.0)

Also, in case some hadn't noticed yet, the fabulous Tome of Horrors has been updated to 3.5, although it's only available in pdf form. Right now, they're even selling it at a discount.

As a really big fan of unique monsters I would like to see a 3.5 original render (not the gray render) and a 3.5 Jabberwock. Because of the new DR system it really could have dr/vorpal which would be really cool.

Lots!

But here are a few...

Centaur-kin (all of them)
Dragon, Jade
Dragon, Moonstone (not the same as the force/ethereal dragon!)
Dragon, Pearl
Ebon Tiger
Eladrins (any not already converted)
Elemental, Time
Genie, Tasked (all of them)
Kercpa (Squirrel-folk!)
Lycanthrope, Raven
Lycanthrope, Swine
Modrons (as both 3.5 monsters, and as a playable race)
Nic'Epona
Quasielementals; Ash, Dust, Lightning, Mineral, Radiance, Salt, Steam, Vacuum
Rilmani (any not already converted)

I am aware that some of the 3rd party companies have published versions of some of these creatures. I'd still like to see the WotC versions (call be a pureist, I guess). :)

Just a caveat though, in the conversion sometimes a creature gets a rather radical makeover, as we've seen in various dragons like the rust dragon, the fire drake, and the adamantine dragon (less so).

I believe Dungeon and Dragon Magazine are official. Says so right on the cover of Dragon.

Anyway, this thread is a great idea. Hopefully those in charge will look at it for inspiration with MM4.

Finally, try this link:

It's an awesome monster index. It will even find monsters convert in the magazines.

More dragons? There are already more species of dragon than elf subraces. Truthfully, no setting I know can even logically have that many dragons to feed. I'd rather WotC focused on monsters that I can actually use in my settings without them standing out like a sore thumb.

I already discussed my great desire to see Wereswine in a 3.5 product in the Monsters section. ;)

I am sorry, I wasn't very clear when I posted!! :embarrass I meant that THIS Flumph (http://www.enworld.org/cc/converted/aberration/flumph.htm) was not official and the one printed in Dungeon was official! Sorry 'bout that! :)

(The winner is... YOU!)

The enveloper was in the 1st Ed. Fiend Folio. It was like a big, nearly featureless humanoid made of white goo that tries to grapple you. If it succeeds it engulfs you and I believe it suffocates you to death. I will have to check the book and make sure that's correct (I haven't looked at my 1st ed. stuff for a long time now! :).

I also liked the living statues that used to be in the D&D Basic or Expert box sets(can't remember which box). This was even before AD&D first ed., this is back when elf was a class not just a race! :) I believe they were redone in second edition in the Mystara Monsterous compendium but I don't think anyone has updated them to 3.x Ed. yet. They are kinda like golems but different. I think I might convert them myself! :plotting: Most of my players won't even know what they are! :)

There was an OOTS about this, can't remember the number, but do remember one of the monsters mentioned... the "DREADED" Osquip. Nothing like a six (or eight?) legged rat with ginormous incisors...

In addition...
It gains the abilities of anything it killed with its enveloping attack
It gained HD, Special Abilities, Anything. Well except a better Thac0.

Love Fiend Folio. Enveloper and Cyratid Colomn (Spelling wrong on that) being my favorites.

It had just such freaky stuff in it.
