subvertisement 06-30-04, 03:22 PM	I wanted to include some Adept (NPC class) Locothahs (CR 1/2) in my dungeon. What is their CR for experience point purposes? a.) Is it 1/2 base CR + 1/2 for the NPC class (A PC class being worth one on the CR and NPC classes being worth 1 less, or 1/2 in the case of lvl 1)? b.) Is it 1/2 base + 1 and rounded up to 2 CR? c.) The ECL for this creature would be 2 (Monster HD) + 1 (EL) + 1 (for the NPC class)? d.) What would the CR and ECL be for this same monster with 2 lvls in Adept instead of one? thanks any help would be great
Haldstaff_Dundragon 06-30-04, 06:50 PM	NPC classes work like regular classes minus one to figure CR. Check the chart in the back of the MM on how improving monsters affects CR. a.) Almost. It's 1/2 (base) + 1 (level) = 1-1/2 rounded down 1 step (for NPC class) to make CR 1. b.) Nope. c.) The ECL shouldn't matter unless this is for a PC. The Locatha is LA +1 w/ 2 racial HD, so is ECL 3 w/o any levels. I'd recommend taking druid levels over adept if this is for a PC. It's a stronger class and there isn't any tricky math. d.) CR 1. 1/2 (base) + 2 (associated levels) - 1 (NPC Class) = CR 1-1/2. Always round down in DnD, so this guy still squeeks in at CR 1. If you give him more gear than normal for his level, I'd bump the CR to two. Otherwise, you found an excellent way to make the pc's sweat for their xp.
