3.5 Monster Tactics Requests [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-15-04, 12:44 AM To anyone who has been following my Monster Tactics threads,

Sorry I haven't been able to post more threads recently. I am currently working on a free lance project and I'm also about to take vacation so it will be a while before the next Tactics thread.

While it is my intention to eventually do tactics for all the Monster Manual creatures I would like to know what monsters from the basic MM (not MM2, Fiend Folio, etc at least not yet) that people would be interested in seeing next. As always I am not making any promises. I will say up front that I am not going to do Demons, Devils, Dragons or Giants yet. Also D&D staples like orcs & goblins will have to wait their turn. I'm more interested in doing strange, exotic monsters that most DMs skip over.

So, okay, tell me what you want to see folks. Thanks!

06-15-04, 01:04 AM A kraken would be cool, a chaos beast would be nice, a ravid is rare, and rakshasa because they are cool.

Any of the above would be neat. Did you know a chaos beast has 10 intelligence? surprised me when i looked at it.

I would love to see tactics for Gricks, Stirges, and maybe the Funguses.

What I love about your tactics is that they make you look at seemingly weird or bland monsters and see the neat possibilities for how they could be used to great effect. The funguses have always seemed kind of blah to me, but I bet you could bring them to vivid life with your tactical eye.

I used your Ankheg tactics with great success in a game about 2 weeks ago. Thanks for all your posts!

Though except veni vidi eat it, I'd assume finding a strategy from something that practically is chaos...same goes for the chaos beast obviously.

Formians: Their various abilities and regimented structure would make them interesting.

Destrachan: A non A-list monster wedged inbetween the devils and demons entries, this subterrainian aberration is at home in the dark and uses unexpected sonic attacks.

Mindflayer: Although a classic, most DMs follow the repeated formula of mindblast, mindblast, brain-suck, despite their array of psionic abilities.

Yuan-ti: Snake beasts of incredible intellect, they are capable of much more than being cool looking cannon-fodder.

Hydra: The variables a DM can apply to any given hydra, in combination with its unique nature, make engaging one in combat a dicey proposition for even adventurers who believe they know its capabilities.

These are all monsters for which I have developed my own non-fodder tactics for, but I would be very interested in seeing your take on them.
