Alignment: Often Chaotic Neutral Treasure: Flat things (scrolls, tapestry, etc.) Advancement: By Character Level (favored class rogue) An ornate tile-pattern rises out of the floor into a ridged, probing girl, with carved-in flourescent hair, smooth jelly-like flesh, and a sparking necrotic leer. A felkar, also known as Mallory Thin, is an impish entity that disguises itself as a floor pattern, an ornate rug, a tapestry, even an unusual stain. These creatures usually spend their lives unnoticed in populated areas, snacking on insects and small reptiles, maybe filching an occaisonal fresh-baked meal in a resturaunt with a lot of wall decoration and fancy carpets. They co-exist with an unknowing humanoid population until one the more violent fringe members of their species takes it into their head to go homonid-hunting. Felkars speak the racial language of the dominant culture in whatever area they live, usually halfling, common, dwarven, elven, or goblin. Combat: Felkars seem to be psychologically incapable of straight fights. They take every opportunity for pot-shots, surprise attacks, and false-retreats. Frightful Presence(ex): 30ft range, when a Mallory Thin does something threatening, such as emerge from a surface, attack, or growl, the opposing creatures are shaken for 5d6 rounds unless the make a will save dc:17. This does not affect creatures with more than 11 hit dice, and those with 5hd or fewer are frightened instead. Horizontal Adherence(ex):: a mallory thin has the effective benefits of a constant Spider Climb and Feather Fall effect. Amorphous(ex): not subject to critical hits or flanking, automatically succeeds all escape artist checks. Flatform(su): as a full-round action, a felkar can transform into a two-dimensional image on any 5ft-square space. This may be an odd portrait, a stain, or a floor-tile pattern. When in flatform, it can be detected with a spot check dc:21. It gains DR10/slashing, DR5/-, and SR21, and cannot use any attacks, special attacks, or spells. Regeneration(su): a felkar takes lethal damage from cold, fire, and aberration-bane weapons. If reduced to unconciousness by subdual damage, it instantly reverts to flatform and can travel one run-movement before becoming truly unconcious. Toxic Tongue(ex): a Mallory Thin deals 1d12 acid damage with a successful lick attack. It deals two points of dexterity damage with a successful lick attack unless the creature makes a fortitude save dc:18 (constitution-based). In a situation where a sneak attack would be allowed, it stuns the creature for two rounds as well (a fortitude save also negates the stunning effect.) |
| Return of the Flumph08-07-06, 09:24 PM | Why does it speak beholder? |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.08-07-06, 09:28 PM | If you can think of a more appropriate language for it, I'm open to suggestions. I just can't seem to come up with anything that fits. |
| Th_Ar_Al08-07-06, 09:44 PM | Curious, how does it reproduce? and how it learns beholder? why can't just speak common (it just don't chose to do it). |
| Vaalingrade Ashland08-08-06, 01:53 AM | If you can think of a more appropriate language for it, I'm open to suggestions. I just can't seem to come up with anything that fits. Halfling. They living in civilized areas and since most other races don't know halfling, its a perfect adopted language for these creatures. |
| Thiez08-08-06, 08:38 AM | I want a save for the frightful presence! :( |
| Khael08-08-06, 01:13 PM | I want a save for the frightful presence! :( Agreed, and also: Attacks: 2 claws+7 melee, lick+5 touch or Weapon+7 melee, lick+5 touch, or Tongue+7 touch From this the Mallory thin has either two claw attacks and a lick attack, or a weapon favouring heavy mace, longsword or spear with lick, right? Now what is the difference between a lick and a tongue attack? And what does the tongue do, bearing in mind it is the lick dealnig 1D12 acid damage. Also I can see it's nature language would be an abberant one, but for a creature living in restaurants etc., I would have assumed an intelligence capable of learning at least a few words of whatever the civilians speak, if not much of the common language at least related to it's 'home'. It would otherwise be displaying a remarkedly animal nature for it's intellect statwise and relatively peaceful nature. Finally a question of the description: What is a probing girl? One who continually pokes you? Ridged I get, but seems weird in the way its written but probing? |
| R.M.G.C.L.F.08-08-06, 02:23 PM | The language thing has been fixed. Added in the save dc for frightful presence. As to reproduction, I hadn't really thought on the issue. Mitosis and/or budding sounds like a likely method. About the tongue, I originally had the attack called a tongue attack, but changed it to "lick". I just forget to edit the last tongue attack. |
| Talisman08-15-06, 05:04 PM |  The most bizarre part is that this is actually a functional monster. I salute you, R.M.G.C.L.F. |
