In the 3.0 MM it saysThe pudding’s acidic touch deals 50 points of damage per round to wood or metal objects. The opponent’s armor and clothing dissolve and become useless immediately unless they succeed at Reflex saves (DC 19).Would this high amount of acidic damage apply to the armor of someone stuck in a grapple with a black pudding? So basically the person has to make a grapple check to get away from the pudding, and he must also make a reflex save to avoid immediate destruction of his armor and clothing (assuming the pudding succeeded at an attack/grapple check that round)? Could the person even attemt the ref save to avoid his armor taking 50 damage if he's in a grapple with it? I mean, when grappling he's basically in contact with it the whole round. Would magic armor/clothing get a bonus to that save?

Thanks

I lost a really nice set of armor to a black pudding for that very reason. NOT good.

Yes, magic weapons/armor gets saves. See the PHB page 136. If they have the itemin their hand or are wearing it, they can use their own saving throw or the items (whichever is the highest) Here's an item saving throw 2 + one half its caster level (See the DMG for caster level)

As I read the text, armor does not take 50 points of damage per round, but becomes useles immediately... so even if it has more than 50 hit points. Too bad. :(
