| stargate52505-28-07, 03:08 PM | I was just reading the latest order of the stick, and Redcloak has just shown off number two on the list of 'Elementals for those who've passed Chemistry,' and it got me thinking. Would it be possible to create 94-118 balanced elementals, one for each real-world element (the number difference is if you want to go with just naturally occurring, or artificial atoms as well)? I'll definitely put some out, but I've got other things to do right now. I'd like to see how many we can actually get on here; I imagine some of them would be pretty kickass. And for reference: Periodic Table. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Periodic_table.svg) List of Finished Elementals |
| Romtos05-28-07, 03:12 PM | I recently saw the Elementals Topic, but I can't find it on the last 15 pages. It's huge and contains your idea, together with loads of other elementals. |
| stargate52505-28-07, 03:14 PM | I guessed I wasn't the only one who had thought of this, and I was rather surprised when my own search didn't turn up anything. If someone could throw up the link... |
| psy00109812105-28-07, 11:43 PM | Sodium elementals... o.o; You know what Sodium does when it comes into contact with any substance or gas with O in it? |
| obrysii05-28-07, 11:46 PM | Kaboom? |
| psy00109812105-28-07, 11:49 PM | Kaboom? Put it this way. Summoning in a medium sized Sodium elemental in the rain is all you need to create a new geographical feature on the map. Well, maybe not THAT big, but it's a great way to destroy a good chunk of land. Your foes might not even realize that it was sodium. They'll just see you wave, incant, and suddenly big boom. |
| DragonBringerX05-29-07, 01:55 AM | Howabout the most usuless elemental of em all O.O...the He (hellium)... you summon him...he just flys up. Summoner "i summon the He elemental" He elemental "by guys" Summoner "oh shoot...i was suppose to cast wall of fire first >_<" or even better... i could picture it now...:plotting: Evil Summoner "i summon a (Fe) iron elemental Good Summoner "i summon a (O) Oxygen elemental... and 2 (H) hydrogen elementals then a chain lighting to merge the two...HA HA HA...NOW I HAVE A WATER ELEMENTAL:evillaugh " |
| stargate52505-29-07, 07:27 AM | You want a big boom? A Cesium elemental.... Or the iron elemental having at an oxygen elemental, make lots of rust. And the helium one has its uses, it'll make people talk in high, sqeaky voices. |
| obrysii05-29-07, 09:28 AM | Helium elementals would also be good to bind to Airships, to gain additional buoyancy. |
| HuManBing05-29-07, 10:10 AM | It may also ruin enemy spellcasters' verbal components, especially those dramatic necromancer ones that require deep, bass, stentorian tones... Imagine when they say "Spawn of Orcus compels you!" in a high squeaky irritated voice. :) |
| Lord_Canius05-29-07, 10:39 AM | Howabout the most usuless elemental of em all O.O...the He (hellium)... you summon him...he just flys up. Summoner "i summon the He elemental" He elemental "by guys" Summoner "oh shoot...i was suppose to cast wall of fire first >_<" or even better... i could picture it now...:plotting: Evil Summoner "i summon a (Fe) iron elemental Good Summoner "i summon a (O) Oxygen elemental... and 2 (H) hydrogen elementals then a chain lighting to merge the two...HA HA HA...NOW I HAVE A WATER ELEMENTAL:evillaugh " Your humor is epic in proportion. You have been sigged. |
| DragonBringerX05-30-07, 12:07 AM | Your humor is epic in proportion. You have been sigged. YESSS VICTORY IS MINE :evillaugh no really, thanx... i feel honored. |
| NinjaPenguin05-30-07, 09:30 AM | Fear the Plutonium elemental... That has rather evil possibilities all its own. Or perhaps the might... er... Neon elemental? Completely incapable to interacting meaningfully with anything at all except to shine pretty colors. Hmm... |
| stargate52505-30-07, 02:59 PM | Fear the Plutonium elemental... That has rather evil possibilities all its own. Or perhaps the might... er... Neon elemental? Completely incapable to interacting meaningfully with anything at all except to shine pretty colors. Hmm... actually, the noble gas elementals would be useful for shielding other elementals from the air, as a few would instantly corrode or explode. |
| Deamon05-30-07, 03:57 PM | Summon up a neutronium elemental. That would have a pretty high strength and should be able to kill things by density alone. |
| V812205-30-07, 06:50 PM | Nuclear elementals open up a whole new world of death!:D |
| stargate52505-30-07, 07:01 PM | Nuclear elementals open up a whole new world of death!:D Finger of Radiation as an at-will supernatural ability? |
| Druid_of_the_storm05-30-07, 07:16 PM | thermite elemental.......bring a match........useful for burning a hole in the ground.....insta-shovel;) |
| stargate52505-30-07, 07:33 PM | Now we're getting into compounds... |
| Kassil05-31-07, 05:27 AM | ...I'm just thinking of a story a friend related, about a few high-level wizards who used Major Creation to conjure up a fissionable mass of uranium. I'm pretty sure a Medium-size elemental of the same substance would surpass critical mass, although I don't know the math. |
| JolanthusTrel05-31-07, 05:42 AM | Hmmm, now think of the haul when you kill a platnium elemental, or summon it and sell it then wait for it to go 'bubbye' |
| Rinian205-31-07, 08:06 AM | I would say that all the Elementals of precious metals would be getting quite ticked off at how people use their substance as currency. I can almost imagine an army of outraged Fine Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Copper Elementals swarming from people's purses in rebellion... And would an Elder Carbon Elemental be diamond? |
| RobbyPants05-31-07, 10:30 AM | You want a big boom? A Cesium elemental.... I was thinking the same thing when someone mentioned Sodium elementals. I started thinking about Potasium, Rubidium, Cesium, and Francium elementals (each getting worse). ...urainum elementals with uranium katanas??? :gah: :hides: :P |
| Dracomortis05-31-07, 07:54 PM | Combine a neutron elemental with a uranium elemental for loads of fun. But seriously, let's decided which elements we want to do first and get to work. My vote goes to (surprise) the uranium elemental. |
| stargate52505-31-07, 10:01 PM | I'll take the Hydrogen elemental. Expect it sometime next week. |
| Xanaphia_Undomiel06-01-07, 03:25 AM | Iron Elemental Earth Elemental, Small Size/Type: Small Elemental (Extraplanar) Hit Dice: 2d8+2 (11 hp) Initiative:-2 Speed: 20 ft. (4 squares) Armor Class: 24 (+1 size, -2 Dex, +15 natural), touch 9, flat-footed 25 Base Attack/Grapple: 1/0 Attack: Slam +5 melee (1d6+4) Full Attack: Slam +5 melee (1d6+4) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Metal mastery, push Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., elemental traits Saves: Fort +4, Ref -1, Will +0 Abilities: Str 17, Dex 6, Con 13, Int 4, Wis 11, Cha 11 Skills: Listen +3, Spot +2 Feats: Power Attack Environment: Elemental Plane of Earth Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 1 Treasure: None Alignment: Usually neutral Advancement: 3 HD (Small) Level Adjustment: — As the sorcerer finishes her spel, a massive rift appears in the air in front of her. A giant metal hulk comes out and brandishing its massive arms joins the fight. Iron elementals speak Ferran but rarely choose to do so. Combat Iron elementals are deadly opponents, swinging their arms and breaking bones with a hit. Metal Mastery (Ex) An iron elemental gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both it and its foe are touching metal (INCLUDING ARMOUR AND SWORDS). If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the elemental takes a -4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. (These modifiers are not included in the statistics block.) Push (Ex) An iron elemental can start a bull rush maneuver without provoking an attack of opportunity. The combat modifiers given in Metal Mastery, above, also apply to the Iron elemental’s opposed Strength checks. |
| Xanaphia_Undomiel06-01-07, 03:41 AM | An easier system for elementals: In most cases, elements in the same groups have the same stats. However, periods matter. For every period down, the elemental gets +2 Con, +2 Str, -2 Dex, and 3/4 speed (round all fractions up). So an Osmium elemental (2 periods down from Iron) would be as my Iron elemental but with +4 Str, -4 Dex, +4 Con, and 10 speed. Groups similar to Iron: I need someone to add a trait for these. Group 9, starting with Cobalt. Group 10, Nickel Group 11, Copper Group 12, Zinc (beware Mercury): +2 Dex, -2 Con, -2 Str, +10 speed I need someone more scientificly trained to do more, as I have had absolutely no training in physics (or chemistry?) ever. |
| RLRapp06-01-07, 03:43 AM | The Iron elemental should bypass Cold Iron DR. Scare away those fey! |
| stargate52506-01-07, 11:37 AM | I think your AC is a bit off, especially for A, a CR 1 critter, and B, his flatfooted AC. He, as well as all applicable others, should have the following trait; Magnetic (ex) This creature is able to attract iron, steel, and similar metals to his body as if under the effect of a Mage Hand spell. This effect is usable at will and has a radius equal to 5ft + 5ft/size category above small. |
| obrysii06-01-07, 02:28 PM | An Iron Elemental should have a rust weakness. Iron rusts rather willingly. |
| Xanaphia_Undomiel06-01-07, 06:03 PM | With the elemental, I imagine it as extremely hard to kill, so I think the AC should stay. |
| smorgasbord_of_pie06-01-07, 09:54 PM | Copper Elemental, Large Large Elemental (Earth, Extraplanar) Hit Dice: 8d8 + 24 (56 hp) Initiative: +1 (dex) Speed: 30ft AC: 22 (-1 size +1 dex +12 natural) BAB: +6 Attack: Slam + 9 melee (2d8 + 3) Full Attack: 2 slams +9 melee (2d8 + 3) Face/Reach: 10ft/10ft Special attacks: Discharge Special Qualities: Conductive, Damage Reduction 10/magic, Darkvision 60ft, Elemental Traits, Immunity to Electricity, Metal Mastery Saves: Fort +15, Ref +4 Will +3 Abilities: Str 23 Dex 12 Con 17 Int 10 Wis 11 Cha 11 Skills: Listen +6, Spot +5 Feats: Cleave, Great Cleave, Power Attack Climate: Plane of Electricity (maybe) Organization: Solitary CR: 6 Treasure: None Alignment: Usually neutral Advancement: 9-15 HD (Large) LA: - Out of the crackling portal emerges a hulking metal monstrosity, buzzing with energy. Masters of the Plane of Electricity are the Copper Elementals. Highly conductive, they can absorb and release massive quantities of electricity. They have gained dominion over their chosen plane through flexibility and frequency: they can outnumber and overpower the larger, more powerful Aurum elementals. These two species wage a constant war on their home plane. Copper elementals speak Cupran but never in mixed company. Conductive (Ex) Copper elementals are highly conductive, and can take electricity into their body. Whenever they are hit with an electrical attack, they take no damage (due to their electricity immunity) and instead add the damage dealt to their ‘electricity pool.’ If this pool goes over 65 points of damage there is an instant discharge, striking the nearest creature with their discharge ability, using the maximum amount of damage dice. When found, a copper elemental will have 3d10 points in its pool. Discharge (Ex) Copper elementals can release a bolt of electricity to the nearest living thing, provided it is not airborne. The bolt automatically hits. The elemental can spend 6 points of its electricity pool to deal 1d6 points of electrical damage in this discharge, to a maximum of 10d6 damage. Discharge has a range of 15 feet. Metal Mastery (Ex) A copper elemental gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls if both it and its foe are touching metal (including arms and armour). If an opponent is airborne or waterborne, the elemental takes a -4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. (These modifiers are not included in the statistics block.) Note: Please PEACH |
| The Vorpal Tribble06-01-07, 10:04 PM | I call dibs on the Oxygen elemental. Have an interesting idea  |
| stargate52506-01-07, 10:37 PM | Since I forsee alot of these using the same type of properties (metal mastery, magnetic, and explosive most likely being only the first), maybe we should consolidate them into a list? |
| smorgasbord_of_pie06-02-07, 12:58 AM | Yeah, maybe if you edited your OP and put them there. |
| smorgasbord_of_pie06-02-07, 02:10 AM | I couldn't resist, had to make another one. (This ones pretty similar to the Air elemental though) Chlorine Elemental, Large Large Elemental (Air, Extraplanar) Hit Die: 8d8 + 24 (60 hp) Initiative: +11 Speed: Fly 100 ft. (perfect) AC 20 (-1 Size, +7 Dex, +4 Natural) Base Attack Bonus: +6 Attack: Slam + 12 Melee (2d6 +2) Full Attack: 2 slams +12 melee (2d6 +2) Face/Reach: 10ft/10ft Special Attacks: Air Mastery, Chlorine Poisoning Special Qualities: Damage Reduction 5/-, Darkvision 60ft, Elemental Traits Saves: Fort +5, Ref +13, Will +2 Abilities: Str 14, Dex 25, Con 16, Int 8, Wis 11, Cha 9 Skills: Listen +5, Spot +6 Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Flyby Attack, Improved Initiative, Weapon Finesse Climate: Elemental Plane of Air Organization: Solitary Challenge Rating: 7 Treasure: None Alignment: Usually Neutral Advancement: 9-15 HD (Large) LA: - A rare occurrence on the Plane of Air, chlorine elementals are nevertheless extremely deadly to unprepared adventurers. Their chlorine poisoning ability can be quickly dangerous, especially for more frail party members. Chlorine elementals speak Auran but rarely choose to do so. Air Mastery (Ex) Airborne creatures take a -1 penalty on attack and damage rolls against a chlorine elemental. Chlorine Poisoning (Ex) Anything hit by the chlorine elemental’s slam attack must make a Fortitude save (DC 17) or take 3d6 points of Constitution damage. As always, Please PEACH. |
| Dracomortis06-02-07, 10:25 AM | Actually, as far as stats go, they'd propbably fall into one of three groups: solid, liquid, or gas. From there, the only real difference is going to be special abilities, based upon the exact element (radioactive elementals, for example, would expose creatures to radiation and would have a half-life; when the half-life expires, the elementals actually becomes another type). Metals are going to have higher AC and damage reduction than nonmetallic elementals, gaseous elementals could probably have the incorporeal subtype, etc. |
| smorgasbord_of_pie06-02-07, 08:32 PM | I think incorporeal would be stretching it a bit. That kinda means that it doesn't 100% 'exist', if that makes any sense. That's why air elementals aren't incorporeal. |
| Xanaphia_Undomiel06-02-07, 09:10 PM | Ok then. The three types are solid, liquid, and gas. These are balanced bonus/penalty abilities: Dense: +2 Con, +2 Str, but -5 Speed, -2 Dex Light: +2 Dex, +5 Speed, -2 Str, -2 Con Malleable: +2 Dex, -2 Con Brittle: DR 3/-, -2 Dex Corrosive: Acid damage (how much), fast healing 3, lose 20% hp for each melee hit- I think that you expend yourself when burning people Rustable: +4 Con. When damp, take 1 damage if Small, 2 if Medium, 4 if Large, 8 if Huge ect. Noble: +2 Dex, ignore energy damage, -8 Str |
| smorgasbord_of_pie06-03-07, 03:08 AM | So is copper 'dense' or 'light'? |
| Dracomortis06-03-07, 10:25 AM | I think incorporeal would be stretching it a bit. That kinda means that it doesn't 100% 'exist', if that makes any sense. That's why air elementals aren't incorporeal. Meh, it doesn't have to be full-blown incorporeability, just something similar (i.e. it has a percentage chance to ignore nonmagical, physical attacks). |
