| Peacimowen08-24-06, 04:53 PM | 20th level druid using Shapechange vs. a tarrasque. (among other things in the party.. mostly the minotaur tank bashing it for all its worth) Looking for suggestions as to what kind of creatures he could change into that would be good to help knock the damned thing out. I posted this on Tuesday but of course it disapeard with the forum changes - I did however keep my window open. Here's the 1 useful reply I got (so far as I know, anyway): The first thing I would do is look at some of the true dragons as dragons are probably HD for HD the most versitle and best creatures for player use in the MM especialy through shapechange. You can even pull of certain great Wyrms as well and with the spellcasting that's a great boon. Next is the Balor or Solar Angel, Balor has specllcasting and DR 15/good (So no tarasque penetrates it) Darkvision 60 ft, Flaming Body (A powerful ability) Resist acid 10 (good for stomach) and SR 28 and telepathy 100 ft. and a quickened 20th level telekenesis ability, and Flight. Solar Angel has very powerful casting, DR 15/epic and evil (so DR 15) Darkvision, immunity to acid, Flight. and regeneration. The Pyrohydra and Cyrohydra can get out some insande damage at 12 headed level (12x3D6 reflex half) and they have Fast Healing 22 as well. ((Low on HP and HD though)) If you can get it into the water a Kraken is a very nice creature to use complete with a 44 grapple and Gargantuin size. The mind flayer sorcerer is also an appearling choice with the extract ability... gets rid of some messy situations quickly. It is an AUTO KILL with NO SAVE, if you can succeed at 4 grapple checks, not too tough if you get a size boost from another spellcaster or a potion (Or yourself as a flayer sorcerer but mainly the extra HD for mind blast and things helps as the MFS). A few problems with some of those suggestions. On the true dragons, no spellcasting. The Shapechange spell, as I read it, only gives you the supernatural and extaordinary abilities, not the spell-like. The pyrohydra is useless, since tarrasque is immune to fire. Cyrohydra's odds of actally doing any useful damage are low, since the breath save DC is low. mind flayer sorcerer... Do I even need to explain that one? Fine. Sorcerer equals class levels. Far as I can see, the Shapechange will allow the caster to change into a creature. It will not allow you to emulate class levels a listed creature might have. (otherwise this would probably be the most broken spell in the game - think about it: double your level in any class!) Anyway, also have access to MM II, and maybe III. |
