I am going to introduce either a silver or brass dragon to my campaign for the players to interact with. I know that silver is the obvious choice since they like to be around people, but I think a brass might add a bit of originality.
So anyway, I would like any tips you have for roleplaying the dragon, but more importantly what exactly do you think the brass dragon would talk about? I thought about endless small talk, such as 'the weather was nice yesterday' etc, but then I thought that perhaps small talk to a dragon is something entirely different. Or perhaps he wont talk small talk at all.
So any tips? If it helps the brass dragon will be of the young age catagory.

"Oh hey wow it's been about a hundred years since a band of adventurers passed through this part of the desert. Back in 1153, that was, and I was but a wyrmling fresh from the egg when the Troupe of the Silver Hawks came through on the heels of the evil Baron Jolbrenner. It seems that he had stolen a relic from a devotee of the elven diety Corellon Larethian to fuel a ritual that would have consecrated a hundred souls to the demon prince Grazzt. But all's well that ends well, right? So like I said, I was but a wyrmling when the Troupe came, and my own sire bore their fallen Paladin to a place of honor when he fell in a duel with an envoy of the Baron. You remind me an awful lot of him, actually. Yes, you there. The one with the yellow fur atop your head, in the shining breastplate. He had better sense of design for his heraldry, I'm not shy saying to you, although I believe his sword and cloak were a bit more battered. Are you a Paladin too? You are? What order do you belong to? How long have you been a member? Really? I don't know that one, is it a new one? Where are they located? How many members to they have? Of course, all Paladin orders these days are but pale reflections of the Great Company of Light, but they do try so hard, don't they? What kind of armor is that you're wearing? Plate mail, is it? Doesn't it get awfully hot and uncomfortable? The skinny fellow over there in the mages robes looks much better prepared against the heat in the afternoon. Drink plenty of water, that's the key. I don't see that you have quite enough barrels to get through the desert. Now there is an oasis, but nobody knows how to get there anymore, except for me, of course, and I don't, because who wants to go throught he desert anyway? You do? Why? Oh I see. That's very interesting, but aren't there safer ways to earn money at home? I think you'll find that if you examined the principle of modern banking, you'd find that the profit to danger ratio is considerably lower than adventuring. As a matter of fact, that's why I don't have a hoard at the moment, because I'm expecting a sound return on my investment when the interest penalties come due. I've gone into moneylending, you see, and everyone always seems eager to pay up...it's like their afraid that I'll do something silly like break their legs if they don't pay on time, which is absolutely a rediculous notion. I mean, it's not like I'm a silver that can take on the form of a manling, I'm stuck like you see me here for a little while until I learn that sallyform spell. If I tried to break someone's legs I'd probably just tear them off or something. But anyway, like I said, you don't have nearly enough water...oh you have a cleric. I see. Hello Mr. Cleric! How are you doing this fine afternoon? What god do you worship? My my my my, I haven't seen a cleric of Pelor in nigh on four years, ever since I had that case of scale rot that I needed to have cured. Scale rot? Oh that's nasty business, that is. It's when a scale doesn't come in proper right after you're through a growth spurt, and it gets wet or something, and a fungus grow right under your skin where you can't scratch. You can sort of tell by the red growth around the ends of the scales. Say, I wonder how red dragons know if they get scale rot? I'll have to find one and ask when I'm feeling more frisky. Anyway, bathing doesn't help to get rid of scale rot, because the mold actually loves the water, and it helps to grow in faster. So there I was with a full blown growth of scale rot, scartching like one of your druid's little wolf animals, trying to find a rock sharp enough to rub against, when I get this bright idea to have it cured by a cleric. So I fly off to the nearest city, which is where you came from, the city of Holerst, and the guards at the gate don't quite know how much of a toll to charge me? So I grabbed one of their pikes because it was nice and sharp and was just having a good roll on the grass, getting some good quality scratching in with the bladed part, when the entire militia turns up! Couldn't you just die!

Create the Brass dragon, with levels of advancement in the Bard class, and give the ability to take humanoid form. The possibilities are endless! :D

Great idea scott! Those listeners will be going nowhere when they are so facinated! :smirk:

I have just had an idea of my own....how about we use this thread or a new one to create a brass dragon's chat together. If we start with BenjCano's chat, and each poster adds another paragraph. Eventually we will have a bit of dragon small talk that could last hours!

Well thank you very much. And also, I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.

One trick is to tell them stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry costs a nickel, and in those days nickels had pictures of bumblebees on them. 'Give me five bees for a quarter,' you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get were those big, yellow ones...

And the year was nineteen aught-three. We had to use the word aught because the Kaiser had stolen our zero!

It was Nineteen Dickedy Two, we had to say Dickedy cause the Kaiser stole our word for twenty. I must have chased him for Dickedy Six miles...

I swear that's real, or else I've gone insane and invent lines for Granpa Simpson now.
