| Crimson_Concerto05-29-07, 11:06 PM | All right, I've DMed for a while now, but while it may seems crazy, I've never actually used any dragons. I know, crazy, huh? I mean, I'm DMing Dungeons and Dragons, and I've only used half the title. Anyways, one of my players has built his character with the Draconic template and put a heavy emphasis on dragons in his backstory, so it only feels right to me that I appease him and add in a couple of dragons to my story. That being said, the party recently came into the care of a Wyrmling Sand Dragon. :D Now, it's much too young to assist them in combat, but it could serve as a useful scout, I think, and having Tremorsense, Low-Light Vision, Darkvision 120, Blindsense 60, and Keen Senses, it could make a great lookout as well... But see, there's my problem. Do Sand Dragons have that? My problem right now is that I can't tell whether or not Sand Dragons are "True Dragons." Like all other dragons, I'm sure Sand Dragons have Darkvision 60 and Low-Light vision, and they also get Tremorsense 60, but only "True Dragons" get Darkvision 120, Keen Senses, and Blindsense 60. To further complicate the problem, the example Adult Sand Dragon given is not listed as having Keen Senses or Blindsense 60, but it DOES have Darkvision 120, which is why I ask. I mean, it's certainly possible that the Sand Dragon has Darkvision 120 but not Keen Senses or Blindsense 60, but it seems to fit the profile of a "True Dragon" in every other sense, with the tables and age categories and all, so I wanted to ask. For now, I'm going to assume that the Sand Dragon gets Darkvision 120 but NOT Blindsense 60 nor Keen Senses, but I'd certainly like a more expert opinion on the matter, if you would all be so kind? |

| Pitiless_Interfector05-29-07, 11:21 PM | I don't have the book on me at the moment, but I'm pretty sure they have tremorsense instead of blindsense (everything in Sandstorm has tremorsense). I don't remember how Keen Senses work (don't they reduce distance penalties for Listen and Spot?) but the Sand dragon probably has them. In any event, the omissions in Sandstorm are a moot point; Races of the Dragon's version of Draconic Heritage has every true dragon listed, and it includes Sand dragons. So, they're true dragons. Whatever that means is up to you. And by the way, I answered your other two questions. |
