First of all under the Nightwing where it states
Attacks: Bite 2d6+13 and transformation,
what does the transformation part mean? It doesn't say anything about what it is or does in the description.

Also where the heck are these things supposed to keep treasure? I can't imagine one wearing a backpack or a belt pouch as that would compromise it's 'composed of pure darkness' thingy. Any suggestions?

the transformation mentioned is a hold over from a second edition abilty that was removed in 3rd ed, and mention of it was left in by editorial oversite... ie an error, all mention of it has been removed in the revised monster manual (in previous editions that nightwing's bite could tranasform its victims into a giant bat under the nightwings control).

as for where they keep thier treasure... I do not assume that they carry it around with themselves (except maybe the nightcrawler which migh have it in its belly) I would assume that the treasure is where ever the thing makes its lair, probably on the cold dead corpses of its victims.

ok thats weird. I even checked the errata and it wasn't in there. Thanks

thats what i figured. and since this is a wilderness encounter that means no treasure for the group... provided they survive that is. (aside)Whenever someone in the party is swallowed I roll a percentile to see if they bump up against something in the creatures gut, or hear a metel *tink*. This usually gives them a clue to gut the bugger after they kill it.

thanks for the quick response

In the original D&D (as opposed to AD&D) setting, where nightshades first appeared, nightshades had a unique way of carrying their treasure - they swallowed it. Nightwalkers and nightwings too, not just nightcrawlers. Since their digestive systems could not harm objects, it provided them with a natural carrying case.

I am NOT making this up. And it could still be a feasable way for a large undead creature to carry treasure.
